I've taken delivery of a DSR 4800 from fleabay. It came with a damaged rotary selector (edit knob) so I had it a week before I could open it up and look at the damage. Luckily I was able to piece back the parts that were there and all seems functional now.

It might be a week before I can put this in my signal chain, so I would like to throw a couple of questions at those of you that own one of these things:

1) I have a DMX741 and was wondering if I could slave the DSR 4800 to my Azbox LNBF out?

2) I see that TSReader Pro ($400) can control this box using the serial port. But does anyone use TCP/IP to control this box on a network?

And thanks already to eurosport84 for the heads up on this unit! :eek:k:

I look forward to getting into this thing to see what i can get!

other info:

DSR-4800
PCB: DTE7150, REV: B, ECN: 0008
FW: 0452042201960240
HW: 0508

Thanks!

Haven't tried slaving it but it should work...

Always done manual entry but this sounds interesting...

I see from the specs that a 4800 is a re-branded 7150... very cool.
Always thought it was the other way around.
Look in the 4DTV area, for a post from tvropro, that includes a pdf file of the DSR-4800 manual. These are awesome receivers. Enjoy! :D:up

Oh... and I'm glad you got the damaged selector knob fixed. I didn't see that when I looked at the pics of it.

This was on an inventory sticker that some tech put on the box. It could be a franken-box for all I know! :D

BTW the manual says nothing about network or any other control software. I found some custom, $3000+ software solutions, and TSReader Pro was the cheapest @$400. The manual does say TCP/IP control, but looking through the menu I see no settings for a network.

I found a picture of the back

I searched around and found a picture of the back of a DSR-4800.

Also, how is it working out - - - - was it worth it?

Yep, that's it! I hadn't had time to shoot pics. With the holidays, and two birthdays it'll probably be next week before I can put the box online. I'm still trying to work out a remote solution as turning the knob is impractical in my situation.

Interesting. I'm a bit surprised relative to the view of the back of the receiver. I don't see any digital outputs, such as to connect an HD adapter, etc, is that right? Also I'm confused relative to outputs to a TV? Are the BNC connectors for that? I used to have a monitor that used BNC connectors, but I think it had 4 or 4 of them, not just 3. So I'm confused both by the BNC and how you go to a TV. The digital audio connectors are strange looking too.
Anyway, the back of that receiver isn't at all what I was expecting to see. I was really expecting to see something more similar to the back of my 4200. I'm curious how these receivers are used.

the audio and video connections are on the green strips.

crackt out,.

I had a moment to test drive my 4800. I don't know if it will find a permanent home with my gear unless I can get IP control, but it's kind of fun seeing what's out there!

Here's a pic of my box with Blackbelt TV on the screen! Low-Fi at it's best!

Very cool!
This box will also do -in addition to regular DCII- DVB, 4:2:2, and DCII combo/split, and also HD, if you get the HD decoder!
The only thing it won't do is S2, but my Coolsat 8000 handles that just fine.
:D:up
I've tuned in many things a 4DTV would never have a chance at getting!

What i found interesting is that two different DC2 modes ( C & I) exist on the same TP.

BTW, I saw a HD decoder for around $100. Still not sure about this box. I haven't figured how to save settings (if they can be saved).

Some of those DCII streams can have several different modes broadcast at one time.
The decoder I use with mine is the HDD-1000. It's like the commercial version of the HDD-200 used w/the 4DTVs. Rack-mount case like the 7150/4800. :)

I don't think they can be saved. These units come from commercial cable head-end service, where they usually get tuned to a certain mux, and not changed.

TSReader Standard $99 will perform Serial receiver control for Motorola DSR-4800 as well.
