Can someone tell me what would happen to the 922 that would cause you to use the above bin file and how would you load it to the receiver since I have not seen an RS232 port at the back of the 922?

Thanks,

Candid

There may or may not be an RS232 port on the back. It's always been unclear to me what the MMAP port really is. And there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of consensus about the subject either.

As far as how you would load the *.bin file... I've wondered that myself. I'm guessing with a BDM adapter connected to the 10 pin header on the main board, but I don't know. Even if the appropriate software to do this does exists, I've never even caught a whiff of a rumor about it. Probably some big Motorola secret, lol.

Cheers

Well what ever the bin file is for people are keeping it to their chest, it exist for a reason and it is s free download from TVROPRO website.

When I first saw it I thought that it would be used in the event that if the battery died and you want to restore the receiver you would be able to load this to return your unit id and receiver number. It is amazing that a company like Motorola with their reputation would build a receiver that would be of no use if a battery died. I would have thought that a first generation receiver would have that problem as the guys would not be thinking about things like that back in the 19th century, but this is the 21st century."come on man"

Any FTA box now and some manufactured before the 4DTV receiver, you can get a factory bin that can restore the receiver or even bring it back to life depending on the problem. I had to calculate the year the receiver was manufactured and now I have to purchace the battery and holder and follow a tutorial to put in the battery to save the receiver in the event that.... "come on man"

TVROPRO is a knowledgable fellow based on what I have read so far on this site, so I am hoping that he post the instructions on how to use the bin file on his site. From his post and the love he has for C-band and his desire to see it continue, he does not appear to be the kind of person that would leave you at the well and walk off with his bucket and rope.

It's use may be too technical without the proper tools and the ordinary member still may not be able to use it but the mystery would be gone and he may know someone with the tools to do the job.

We shall see.

The reason I put the EC bin file up there was so if someone wanted to tinker with it they could. In theory you could rewrite it to remove the ratings ceilings bug and possibly allow manual entry to not black out the screen. I'm not a programmer but someone with the knowledge could do it. As far as loading it, the RS 232 port can be modified to load also and you can also access the board through the cam slot besides using the header on the PCB.

I have another document that could be useful but that may be bordering on hacking since it gets into the main Motorola processor and other things. If one digs deep enough on the net there is some hidden stuff out there. You just need to understand there are similarities between the Motorola DCT's and DSR's.

My goal isn't hacking but to see the functions added to make our 4DTV's like a DVB box.

Hi Tvropro,

You mentioned that the Rs232 port can be modified but I am not seeing any Rs232 port on the Dsr922. The cam slot you are referring to is in the pull down flap under the power button with the Motorola Logo?

Can you tell me if the password protected document is the document you are referring to that relates to the bin file and if it does can you provide me with the user name and password to access it. I can get in touch with someone who writes software for boxes so I am not sure if he would be willing to take a look at it and try to include the things that you would want included to make it into a Dvb box. I am not a programmer either so I do not have a clue on what to do with the bin file. However as I said above your interest and love with the C-band is encouragement for me to at least try to see what can happen providing he is interested and have the time.

You would have to make a list of the things you want included so I can pass on everything to him to see if he would be interested.

I would also like to thanks you for eliminating the mystery behind the bin file and I am sure the other have appreciated that as well.

I also am not sure whethet I should have post this here but you are not allowed to receive PM's. So in the event I should not have my apologies to whom it may concern.

Candid

Yeah, it would have been real nice if they had designed the board with the battery in a battery holder that a user could have changed out with AC power supplied rather than risking bricking the 4D by soldering and desoldering batteries. My guess is that they didn't do it because it was part of planned obsolecence (sp?).

I can't send a PM to you for some reason. My PM is working as far as I know. I got a couple lately.

You would have to create a contact address on your site as I cannot send you any pm and you cannot send me any either.

I get the same thing I think this feature (PM) is turned off to all but Moderators because of some issue with spammers lately. I was able to PM Iceberg and waiting for his reply.
