Drunk Technicians?

I am sorry to hear that, but I gotta say I fell off my chair laughing while reading this post! That being said I wouldn"t let the likes of those guys down my street let alone my driveway again. Totally unacceptable.

If it didn't happen to me, I'd have been laughing too.
It sounds like a Seinfeld routine. Really. "That couldn't happen, could it?" would be most people's reactions...

Another update: 2 more calls from Dish Network exec's in the past 1/2 hour. They are sending an in-house installer first thing in the morning (NOT Linkus) from Los Angeles. They are taking this case from the Main Offices, and my contact people are all in Los Angeles and Colorado (direct numbers to offices and cell phones). [edited to add that they want me to use these contact numbers for the entire time I am a customer, not just for this... so that makes me feel pretty good.]
Wow, they are really coming through. I must say I'm impressed. I didn't think they'd even read the email, frankly, and they are really jumping through hoops to make this right.
The common themes to the calls are 1) making me happy and 2) making sure this never happens again. Sounds good to me.

Yes, there is no excuse for drinking on the job, as well as the other parts of this fiasco. So someone who's "underpaid" should blow their money on more alcohol? I don't think so.

I gave my tech's beer. They done a really nice job. Just because someone drinks dosen't mean they are drunk. I don't know what you people expect with the petty wages they are paid. You're not going to get any brain surgens istalling systems. Most of them can't even afford Satellite or cable tv

You're kidding, right? Anyone getting paid to do a job on my property better not show up smelling like alcohol. Drunk or not drunk. Anyone drinking on the job like this obviously isn't smart enought to get a better job.

They can't afford sat or cable, but they can afford beer?

Thanks for the play-by-play Aerochick. I'm glad they are doing something about this fiasco.

Please do keep us informed.

I have guys offering me a beer all the time, while i'm installing their satellite. As far as I remember, I have only accepted once... and it was my last job of the day, and the Cards game had just started... so it was only right to do :)

You know what I rarely get ticked off at a post or a poster for that matter but you are truely an idiot to think that these guys are making poor wages and cant aford even a pay tv service for themselves. The only sub contractors that I ever met who didnt make much money were the ones who did little to no work and that was strictly due to theyr own issues with being lazy. Just to give you an idea a sub contractor ranges $800 - $1,600 a week depending on how hard he works, a seasoned DNS tech can expect to take home $1,200 - $1,700 every other week weeking half as many hours and days as a sub contractor. Oh and one last thing, if you drink anything with alcohol in it you cant stop the process that follows, you drink, you get buzzed, you drink enough you get drunk and the amount varies sometimes to large degrea's based on the person.

Update:
Well, we FINALLY have our HD tv! DishNetwork sent out an in-house QA guy to install our system and he was FABULOUS. He did a complete re-installation and when he fired it up, the 622 was 'bad' so he just went out to the van to get another one--it worked perfectly. (Subcontractors only bring out ONE unit, so we'd have been screwed if this happened with LinkUs.)
My phone is STILL ringing today with DishNetwork representatives making sure that things are going well.
So, the end result is, everything works, and works WELL.

I hope they continue this investigation and fire at least the subcontractor who sent out the guys in the first place. I have heard from some of the reps who I have spoken with that my email was not the first and my complaint was just the loudest and most complete... DishNetwork is trying to set up their own offices in Bakersfield, so they can get rid of LinkUs and subs like RSG.

I am preparing a long letter with full details for the ceo's office... giving credit where credit is due... there are certainly people involved that deserve a pay raise and promotion through all of this.

And re: giving the tech's beer at the service call--that's not wise--just a tip... if they drink at your house and then get in an accident YOU are liable, too. I have lost loved ones to a drinking and driving accident, so please protect your fellow man and if you give your tech beer, invite him to stay for dinner too... don't just send him on the road.

What bothers me most is this sh*t about speaking Spanish. It bothers me when I see it on the news... It bothers me when I have the same sort of experience... and it bothers me to go into a store in my HOME COUNTRY and be surrounded by a people who shouldn't be here that can't speak my language.

If you are going to come to America, learn our language. And as for people like Bush who want to make Spanish one of our national languages - Go to hell!

Exactly.

I don't want to drift too much on this thread but I have to say that regardless of whether or not Spanish should be our second language, I am seriously considering taking a few classes. We don't have any spanish speaking techs, but we sure do have alot of spanish speaking customers.

Like it or not, this is the future. It WILL be our second language, and the sooner we accept it and learn how to adapt, the better off we will be.

Yeah, the illegals should at least try and learn the language if they're gonna move in, but ya can't force em. The younger ones usually pick it up eventually anyway.

I won't argue with you that it is the future and that everyone should, perhaps, have a few classes. Heck, when I flew into Montreal, I knew the largest majority of people that I communicated with would speak French. Guess what, though? I learned to speak French. I thought it was a courtesy. When I go into their country, they don't have an obligation to change things around just to communicate with me. Canada probably isn't a good example, though, since a lot of individuals up there speak English and it is, primarily, an English speaking nation.

But I think the problem is worse in the south than in other areas. See, in the south, we are more willing to give free hand-downs and generally just stand idle while they take over our land, homes, and lifestyle. I'm rather tight-lipped about my own life situations, but it irked me to be having a really bad night one afternoon (I have multiple-sclerosis that comes and goes and, thankfully, is on the mild side) and was told that a Mexican with a cold took a priority over me (when I was there first and had insurance).

I may sound prejudice. Let me just put it this way, though.... I can get along with just about anybody -- I'm a white man and the largest majority of my friends are white and black. But all of my friends had one thing in common: We respected our nation, we spoke English, and we all worked hard. Oh, and none of us had a "record-breaking" nine-children in just a few years. In other words, we wouldn't have taken advantage of some free hand me downs by a nation just because we could.

I think I'll shut-up before making anybody mad, getting booted, or having this post moved into the Pit (because I really do enjoy visiting this board), but I guess the nation is in trouble in several ways (with this being one of the larger problems, in my opinion).

As for showing up on the job drinking... Just because you are drinking, it doesn't make you drunk but I think I agree with the majority of people that have posted on this subject by saying that you shouldn't show up to any job drunk or with the scent of alcohol on you. If somebody shows up to my property like that to perform a job, they'll be asked to leave. It's a liability not only to me and that individual, but to the Dad, Mom, college student, or innocent child that they may kill by driving drunk.
