DP44 Switch ?

Why are we going to move any locals off of 121 and 105 satellites? What are they going to use these two satellites for then if not for locals? I am not understanding why and how they would be able to cram all these locals back onto the 110 satellite without making pq suffer.

They have a new satellite going up to 110 next year. The new satellite will have 45+ spots on it ( http://www.lmcommercialspace.com/pay/capabilities.htm ). They will then be able to use this new capacity at 110 for the superdish markets.

Long term they could use 121 for internationals and 105 for HDTV (what they originally said long time ago before 105 coverage problems).

Mike, if they put HDTV at 105, the customers who have a SD today that is aimed at 110/119/121, will not be able to get HDTV.

I think the locals that are there today stay at 105 and 121, and new HD gets added to 61.6 and 148 and picked up with a 2nd dish.

The lesser locals on the wing sats go to 110/119 after E* X goes up.

New local markets are added to 105 and new internationals are added to 121.

Not sure if today's HD are migrated to the wing sats to join the new HD, though. Seems like an easy deal to give current HD folks who do not have the 2nd dish installed a 2nd dish. There can't be more than 1 or 2 hundred thousand of those out there. Dish would have to wait for the DP 44 before moving current HD (HBO HD, etc.) back to the wing sats.

Well Charlie said he was going to have a One Dish solution for all the locals and everything else by 2008. That must be one hell of a large dish to fit all the existing satellites out there. Either that or they will be using the torridal curved dish with multiple lnbs to get all on one dish.
