Dolby 5.1 over HDMI

He said front to rear. That sounds like 5.1 Dolby too me.

It is not possible to get actual 5.1 out of the red and white RCA cables. Like they said above it is Dolby pro logic. The surround receiver takes the stereo sound and turns it into simulated surround sound. This can sound very good but it's not DD 5.1 the way it was originally encoded.

I just posted why he gets front to rear. L minus R equals Rear in the Pro Logic world. Sounds great, all spacious and delayed, but not the same as a 5.1 encoding. You're simulating 5.1 from 2.0. It may sound convincing, but it's not the same by a long shot. Read about it HERE. Why settle for simulated surround when you can just plug in another cable and get the real thing?

Dolby Digital 5.1 over HDMI works just fine using 2 RCA cables from the analog stereo output of your Hopper? I'm impressed.
It can fool with pretend surron selected on the amp. Just because sound is coming from the surround speakers does not mean you have true surrondsound. No way can two analof outputs pass surrond sound.

This isn't even worth arguing over. Everyone who knows what DD 5.1 is, just know that you're right and don't bother trying to explain what analog 2.0 is. This thread shouldn't keep showing up towards the top.

How's your hopper after losing power?
