FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Red Bay, Alabama, April 5, 2007
As a precautionary measure, Sunshine Mills, Inc. (“Sunshine”), a branded and private-label pet food manufacturer based in Red Bay, Alabama, is voluntarily recalling a portion of its branded dog biscuits made at its Red Bay, Alabama biscuit plant during part of March 2007. These brands include: Nurture Chicken & Rice, Nurture Lamb & Rice, Pet Life Large, Pet Life Extra Large, Pet Life Large Variety, Pet Life Large Peanut Butter, Lassie Lamb and Rice, and Pet Life People Pleasers Dog Treats. Private label biscuits for five of Sunshine’s customers were also affected. A complete list of affected biscuit brands, sizes, and codes is available below or at our website, www.sunshinemills.com. Sunshine’s other biscuit brands and products that include small and medium sized biscuits were not affected. It is also important to note that dry dog and cat food and soft and chewy treats for dogs or cats manufactured by Sunshine are not affected and not included in this recall.
The company is taking this voluntary action of recalling the dog biscuits listed below after learning from the FDA that wheat gluten supplied to Sunshine from a specific manufacturing facility in China contained melamine. Melamine is a substance not approved for use in food. The FDA made this finding as part of its ongoing investigation into the recent pet food recall.
The recalled dog biscuits are marketed nationwide by many pet food retailers including the mass channel, traditional grocery, and pet specialty stores. No dog illnesses or deaths have been reported to date in connection with these dog biscuits. The recalled dog biscuits contain one percent or less by weight of wheat gluten.
Consumers should immediately stop feeding their dog the dog biscuits with the specified date codes and consult with a veterinarian if they have any health concerns with their dog.
Sunshine’s products are 100% guaranteed. Consumers may receive the full replacement value of the recalled dog biscuits by returning them to the place of purchase or consumers may contact Sunshine’s customer service number at (800) 705-2111 for further information about the recall and for other instructions on obtaining a product refund.
The safety and well-being of pets are Sunshine’s utmost concern. We deeply regret this unforeseen situation.

Whew ....... as long as it's not People Food.
My dog's been eating Hot Dogs - Hamburgers - Chicken - Rib Patties ........ and pound for pound he looks real good , I guess you can call it the Doggie Atkins diet , that is with the occasional table cracker or Pizza Crust .

Add Doritos to that .

Wait ..... last night it was Swedish Meatballs from IKEA.

Geez... I have some of the Ol'Roy biscuits. My dog is gonna be ticked off tomorrow after she gets the newspaper and I don't give her a biscuit. :)

Ohhh.. a slow death, that's much better!

Same here, my dogs like them better than the name brands (which some of the recalls expose as from the same source ;))

I'll have to figure out some kind of replacement for Ol Roys! I think my dogs are addicted, as they get one after each meal!

I lost my 13 year old Blue Heeler /Border Collie mix dog last weekend... now I'm thinking it wasn't natural, Purina Dog Chow/ Pedigree/Healthy morsels mix with table scraps and the Ol Roy dog biscuits and once a week I feed each one of them a half pound of raw hamburger apiece (non lean) ...

Sorry to hear that , I've pretty much had a dog all my life , even had 3 dogs at one time , pets are for life ..... would never give a dog up , on dog life expectancy I can say yes a healthy diet is important , we had an overweight dog that I was sure would live the shortest life , she would finish her bowl and all the other dogs bowls too , she ended up living the longest 13-14 yrs.

My most heartfelt loss was a purebred small poodle , who got parvo-virus strain , died on my lap on the way to the vet, it was a Sunday when the vet was closed so I made an emergency call , I cried my eyes out , yeah I liked the dog but those tears were for my Grandma who I knew would be devastated , and she was and everytime the subject came up I would relive it again .

We were dogless for a year and a half , talk about silence in the house , finally I gave in and picked up a mutt , everyone likes him but he has behavioral problems , so 1st dog that I have thats not people friendly , he's Half Pirahna and Half Tiger LOL, actually a Wire haired Terrier mix who gets a haircut from me and looks a little like Wishbone from the PBS series ( very Cute ) , unfortunately I gotta keep him away from kids.

My Dog could've been trained with more discipline , but then I have to re-train my family , nothing worse than telling a Dog to get off a bed or a couch and have someone else telling the dog to get up on the couch or the bed ( then you wonder where the behavioral problems come from ). My family members got a scolding from me on several occasions , but they insist he's a baby , I gave up on ( my family members learning anything) , I really like this Dog but have to admit it's probably the last one ( so I say ), Grandmas 93 going on 94 and it's tough to go on vacation without leaving someone behind.

My dog will play with dry dog food , doesn't like the biscuit either , I tried the biscuit , really I did ..... funny it wasn't bad , had a touch of honey LOL....

He does love Pig ears ...... don't even try to take it , he'll let you know he's serious.

Yeah, sorry about your dog.

Looks like mine is not gonna be upset - my wife tells me right now we have Iams biscuits and not the 'ol roy.

On same Ranch 2 summers ago, Rat Terrier dog got bit by Rattlesnake in eye... (another buddy, I held her in my lap the 1.25 Hr drive to vet, she survived minus the eye... last summer her pup a Jack Russell/ rat mix got bit in neck and also survived... ) when I visit both dogs stay in my lap for hours ;)...

The dog was tough. Neat story.

Well, these are at least the pet foods NOT involved in a current recall. Easier to sort out than to try to go through all the ones that HAVE already been recalled.
