Does the Dish PVR Need the newer daul band lnbs

Basically i have one of those old starband dishes with the old lnbs. I was simply wondering if i could get a 625pvr and run it in single tv mode and it would work. or do i have to change the dish to a newer 500 with the dual band lnbs to use this reciever??

I am running dish 500 on this dish with no issues and i have one dvr and would like to get another one but they simply will not sell you a dvr without having it perfessionally installed..

Info on my frustration:

I ordered a replaced new dvr for the old standard one. They didnt tell me it had to be professionally installed. Supposed to be here on monday never show up or call.. Came today an hour and half past the scheduled time wouldnt leave the reciever and told me that the dish needed change to use it.. Wanted to reschedule for next weds I got so frustrated that i cancelled the update.. I figured would get some great information from this forum and make a intelligent decision on how to procede

You could get a 5XX receiver to work off of the starband dish like you're talking about, but that setup was really only meant to run one or two receivers. On top of that, as old as the equipment on that dish is, I wouldn't trust it to run reliably. It might be fine, but then again it might not. Since you're getting a new receiver, it would be a good idea to get an updated dish as well. In doing so, then it would be standard operating procedure to have it professionally installed. Installation specs have changed a lot from when your starband system was put it. Over the years things have been discovered about how to setup a dish system so that it works reliably. These receviers these days are pretty picky about the cable and equipment that they want to work with. My advice would be to reschedule your upgrade and hope to get a competent technician who will do his job and not blow you off, and THAT my friend, is sheer luck of the draw.

well when they put starband in there were here for a week and I had to do it and get it to work..

I put the orignals in, Starband in and i know that i could put the new ones in..


I simply want a another DVR I should have put both of them in years ago then i would not have to messing with it now.

I was told the lighting arrester even has to come off with the new dish and receiver setup. I find this odd.. I know that both sat. info is running over the cable but if it is that sensitive.. I would rather just find another dvr that will work on my present system.

The LBN'S are the question. I was told that you cant run a new standard dvr on the old system. I am having a hard time believing this if I am not using HD and keeping the same packages..

as long as you have two feeds from the LNBFs for the two tuners, you would be fine. They don't care if it's DP or legacy but it only works right if both tuners see the same configuration.

so you are telling me that on that the receiver has to have both inputs connected to work?? You simply can not connect one sat input and run it without the second one..

I checked and my system has dish pro rec. along with rg6 wiring so the system is fine. I am researching to see if i can take one of the SAT feeds and use splitter to feed both tuners if I got a dual tuner. So i do not have to change the dish..

For the DPP splitter to work on the dual tuner, you will have to use a DPPlus LNB.

No splitters, its a DPP seperator. Only works with DPP technology which is a DPP twin, dish 100.2, DPP44 at this time. Legacy and Dish Pro LNBS require 2 lines to the dual tuner to work properly.

ok so the tuner will not fuction without both tuners enabled. So you can't run it off of just tv1 and not use the second tuner. If this is the case it is good to know that

with enough fiddling you *might* be able to get it to work but heck, just bite the bullet and run 2 lines to it even if you only want it on one TV.

A dual-tuner will change your life though not quite as much as having a DVR itself does. Use PIP or watch one thing and record another, or record two things at one time.

And like the others said, you can run it with one line and a DPP Separator, if the thing at the other end has the DP PLUS designation on it.

well i simply want to have only one input for now then once i get a new dish add the other tuner.. I just dont want to burn the tuner if i don't connect anything to it. My dish only currently have two outputs and i have two recievers. I will update the dish in time but really only want another dvd tuner.. I could even just put both turners on the time and remove both recievers but i would rather just leave the tv2 output unconnected as long as a do not burn the unit that is what i will do. then in the a few months or spring i will change my dish to support 4 tuners
