I'm looking for an HDD-based DVR that I can use to record OTA HD broadcasts. I've come across a few of them from the "mainstream" manufacturers (Panasonic, LG, Philips, etc.) but they all seem to downconvert the HD signal before saving it to the HDD. Presumably this is done because the on-board DVD recorder can only support SD.
Does anyone know if the Coolsat 8100 downconverts as well? I've searched around a number of sites but haven't found a straight answer. Obviously I would connect the 8100 to my Aquos tv via HDMI.
I have no plans to archive the HD material, I just want to be able to record and watch the odd HD show that I get OTA.
Thanks!
