Does LNB brand matter?

I would like to use one of my old Sony receivers at my grandparent's vacation home as a second receiver which would be added to their account. Currently the house has a Hughes receiver and single LNB 18" dish. I upgraded my home system to HD and now have an extra dual LNB 18" dish from the sony system that I would use to add the second receiver. Will the Hughes receiver work with the Sony LNB? Also, I have an access card with the Sony. Will I be able to activate it or will I need to get a new card?

Any brand DirecTV standard dish will work with any DirecTV standard receiver. They MIGHT require you to have a new card, which with a small bit of chatter, they will send you over night at no cost to you.
