Way, way back when Comcast took over for ATTBI, I subbed to their HSI service and they wanted to charge me $15 extra a month for not having any other services. So I subbed to limited basic TV for about $10-$11/mo. Now the price for limited basic is over $22, so I finally decided to drop it. The rep did say that the $15 surcharge is still in effect, but my new charges doesn't show the added $15 (maybe it will show up at the next bill generation next month). If they did drop the policy of charging the extra $15, I hope it wasn't too long ago or I'll be kicking myself.

Yeah, I wonder, just like rates vary by area, whether that policy varies by area as well. I would call periodically and be told that they still charge it, but maybe I was being fed bull just to keep me from dropping services. Bastards.

In my market, they don't charge a surcharge. Rather they give a $10 bundling discount if you do subscribe to TV.

I think CenturyLink has also relented somewhat on their naked DSL terms.

The economy is only 10 more if you don't sub to tv.
performance starter is the same with or without a tv sub.
For the performance its a 14 dollar difference if don't have cable tv.
Skipping ahead to the extreme 50, that one has the 15 dollar difference.
But these are for my area, and yours may differ slightly.
Comcast is quite pricey, but better then useless att.

My online bill shows $47.95 for performance, we'll see if anything else is added on after the next bill is generated.

I think CenturyLink has also relented somewhat on their naked DSL terms.

I've had "Pure Broadband" (formerly naked DSL) for 6 years now and I didnt pay anymore than what someone with phone service did back then. Sure there have been promos that were "better" but for only 6 months or so then it would have cost more than what I was paying

Looks like in Minneapolis they do charge more for internet only

Performance is 62.95 (going up $2 in January) but only 48.95 with TV (going up $3)
Blast is 72.95 without TV, 58.95 with TV

but you're right...lifeline here is like $21.49 or something close so it would cost more for internet & lifeline

I wish I had alternate choices for high speed Internet access, paying 60 bucks for hi sped and "limited basic" that I don't use and now if I wanted to they are uses cable boxes now to receive the limited basic signal....ugh

In fact looking at my bill right now with the new year price inserts....bill going up about five dollars 21.95 for limited basic now and and 51.95 for Performance....ugh

Well, I went ahead and dropped my TV service. My bill now looks like this:

Performance Internet: $64.95
Service Discount: $15.00

So now I wonder if that "service discount" is just a temporary discount just to appease me for a few months....I'll be raising a stink when/if it disappears.

I had the discount on my bill for years after I dropped their crappy tv service.

Ended up correcting the bill when I called in for a service call to replace the modem
Well, I replaced my modem a month after dropping the TV service and getting the discount. So far, no changes to my bill. Fingers crossed. Hopefully I'll be good for a while now.

In my market we dont have a surcharge, but the packages are priced differently, you should see Performance WOC (without cable) or something similiar. So essentially, you are paying more to have internet and not tv or phone, but still less than having it bundled (factoring in the cost of tv) unless of course you get a promotion, sounds like you have both services a la carte, try to call in and ask if there are any promotions available.

Nope. I'm currently getting Performance Internet standalone for 64.99 - 15.00 for a total of 49.99. The cheapest bundle I can get is 39.99 for Performance/Digital Voice for 12 months, but that requires a 2-year agreement + $7.00/mo required phone modem lease. I'd only be saving $3/month for 12 months, but then I'd be locked in for another year with a much higher price after the promotion price.

Just reporting in that I'm still getting the 49.99 price (64.99 Performance Internet - 15.00 Service Discount), hope it continues.
