They've set a premiere date for series 11 with Jodie Whittaker.

Nope, I refuse to watch it anymore. It's gone to crap, and having the doctor become a woman is a mistake.
While I agree making the character a woman is a mistake, as it completely changes the dynamic of the character (same thing when they did it to the Master), I'll still check it out to see if it's any good.

Not to such a degree. There's a fundamental difference between a man and a woman, and this kind of change radically changes the character.
I dont think it matters..the series changes when the doctor changes..the whole supporting cast changes..its almost like a star trek spinoff where the crew and the mission change

I'm enjoying the new Doctor, she has captured the Doctor's past mannerisms (Tenet and Smith) so I'm totally in for Jodie. However, the show itself is starting to have this "Quantum Leap" vibe to it, where it appears the Tardis is not totally under her control (personality clash?) and we'll be visiting Earth in various time periods and locations where women were marginalized and the Doctor gets the chance to show the Powers That Be that women are equal. Then, off to the next situation. I hope that I'm over-reacting to the sneak-peek for Sunday's episode. After all, don't we have Lucy and the gang from "Timeless"? I'd rather the show stick to being "Doctor Who" and not a clone of some other shows.
Unfortunately, the show was cancelled and they barely got approval to do a 2hr movie wrap-up.
I'll need to re-watch it. Maybe it was a "Doctor Who" trailer I'm remembering. I've been watching "Doctor Who" since the 1970s and the show and it certainly improved over the years. Of course, so have the other SF shows.

That has happened to me on a number of shows. But the lawsuit was settled between the 1st season and the 2nd, so I don't think that had anything to do with it's cancellation.
Until only recently, I was never able to sit through an entire Dr. Who episode before. I tried watching it a while ago after I found out Torchwood, which I really liked, was a Dr. Who "spin off" (not really, just the main character was introduced in a Dr. Who episode, apparently). The Dr. Who episodes I tried to watch were just too silly for me compared to the darker and edgier Torchwood.
Now that I understand this is a "family hour" show in the UK, I'm able to try to watch and enjoy Dr. Who on its own merits. I watched the first "series" pilot on Amazon Prime (the one with Billie Piper) a couple weeks ago so I could get a sense of the set up. I guess each "series" (season) is relatively self-contained, so I can go ahead and check out this year's "series" with Jodi Whittaker after hearing all the buzz.
So far it's okay. I haven't watched last night's yet, but when I saw the trailer for the "Rosa Parks" episode, I did have misgivings that this was a Quantum Leap/Timeless kind of show. I liked Quantum Leap back in the day when I didn't care about the kinds of time travel paradoxes that plagued Timeless, but I don't know how much patience I'll have for a show that's trying to ensure important historical events happen—been there, done that.

I found myself enjoying "Rosa" more than I expected. Part of it was seeing Ryan meet all of these iconic Civil Rights figures that he pretty much breezed over in school, but here they are, in the flesh. The other traveller uses temporal displacement technology like the gizmo that Capt. Jack Barrowman (your spinoff character, Zookster, from "Torchwood" and "Doctor Who") so I wonder if they'll revisit that.
