Do you miss the "old days" of the NFL?

I'm probably in the minority but, get rid of the domed stadiums. I like watching and attending the games outside where football was meant to be played. Rain, Wind or Snow, that's part of the game.

If you liked rain, wind or snow, you must have loved yesterday's Jags/Panthers game.

Let me also say, Im not knocking todays game but those old days seemed epic. Its like Cowboys/Redskins with Pat and John at RFK Stadium, that was like an EVENT, not just a game.

If the "old way" means removing the bottom line crap on all programs then I'm for it
For the record I hate all the pop-up graphics on everything today as well. Cable news and the weather channel are the worst. What's the point of even showing video when you block half of it with headlines and bulletins. Ridiculous.

As for the NFL, I don't mind the small corner of the screen scores, but I can't stand that ESPN style scroll at the bottom, especially when it distorts the picture.

I have to agree with other posters' thoughts on the graphics. I remember the revolution of having the score/clock/downs on the screen all the time. Who else remembers yelling at the screen "Just give me the score!"? The 1st down line and line of scrimmage on-screen are good too. The rest I can live without really. I used to like the ticker showing the other scores, but have since found the NFL app on my phone is much easier.

what do i miss about the old days? being able to celebrate after scoring a TD. i especially miss real tackling. not the "let me launch myself like superman at this guy" style we have today.

Problem is EVERYBODY celebrates now. I mean someone tackles a guy for a 2 yard loss and they celebrate. Its a little too much.

yeah lights out. i hate that dance. hell i hate that guy  :D

meriman or whatever his name is,he's one of those that celebrates even when his own qb gets sacked

I like football to be fun and everything but its a little too much now.

One of the old days of the NFL that I miss, and this could be a stretch, the John Madden Turkey Leg. Remember when he would give the turkey leg out after the Thanksgiving game?

Monday Night Football was fun with Cosell. I know he could be an ass sometimes but he was interesting. Who could forget the night he announced the death of John Lennon. Years earlier he had joined Howard in the booth . Check out these clips

I miss the old days when pro football was a game. Now it is (like everything else) packaged like a reality TV show. Do we need hours of pre-game hype? No. The half-hour shows in the 80s (NFL Today, NFL 81) did just fine. Do we need breathless announcers making every miniscule detail of the game seem like the future of world is at stake ? No, I'll take Dick Enberg's "Oh, my". Do I need fantasy stats on the screen after every play? No, I like to set my lineup and then forget about it, if my guys are not playing well, I tend to get irritated, so I'd rather wait until the week is over to look.
