I currently have 2 round dishes with a multiswitch. Do I need the oval dish to be able to get HD to an HDTiVo?

Yep. No LNB on a round dish can see the satellite where the HD programming is.

That having been said, you could still get OTA HD on your HD TiVo, I would think.

Turns out I'm either smarter or dumber than I appear :)

I actually hung an oval 3-LNB dish when I switched to D* from E*. I had forgotten all about that; when I went out for my morning run, I checked via eyeball and got a pleasant surprise. Whatever points I get for prior preparation are probably erased by asking a dumb question (but thanks for the answer!)

Always go with dumber, that way you surprise even yourself, this is a perfect example. Plus people will underestimate you which is always good, you can always live up or down to their expectations. :D

Bottom Line: Issue resolved!!!

HDTivo: do you actually need to plug in the phone line?
