do i need a new receiver?

I have a fortec star mercury 2 and have lost sound on a number of channels? It came on suddenly.

Yes like Ice said we need to know what channels you watch. I think it would be a good idea though to get you a receiver that does DVB-S2.

no sound on 3abn  channels and hope church channel

I have sound on them here. So the receiver should be fine

Is this a motorized setup or a fixed dish?

fixed dish no problem with sound on llbn channels or amazing discoveries or amazing facts. good picture quality on channels without sound. Good signal quality

try and remove the channels from the list and rescan them in

Also, the Merc has its own volume control feature that is controlled by the left and right arrows on the remote. If you are viewing a channel and you press one of those buttons, you should see the indicator move on the OSD. Make sure you don't accidentally have its volume turned down all the way.

2nd audio on 3abn wil not work on Merc. AC3.. Sounds like the audio button got pushed or they swapped apids. They did that once before for a few hours - or days... do not remember how long they had them switched. I do not have anything to check it right now.
