Do Direct's DVR receivers require telephone line hook up?

I'm going to call Directv today to sign up, but I thought I'd ask here real quick.

I'll be having an SD DVR installed in my son's room, and there's no telephone jack in there. Does Direct require a telephone hook up to the dvr's to waive the $5 fee like DISH does??

The only reason you need the phone line is for ordering PPVs. Otherwise they aren't required.

Sweet. Got a letter from dish the other day saying that they're going to start charging me some DVR fee for my boxes not being hooked to a phone line... Funny thing is, both of them ARE connected to phone lines, and the phone connection test through the receivers tested OK.... LOL..

You can order PPV via their website and ALL your receivers will have that PPV activated.

That is nuts charging someone extra for not having a phone line. A lot of homes don't have landlines any longer.

And almost all of those have some sort of always-on Internet connection.
