The only channels I hope DirecTV picks up in HD are ION(still in testing) for "Flashpoint", "WWE Main Event", & "NWA Wrestling on Fire" & TV Guide for "Rove LA". Also if DirecTV brought G4 back for "Attack Of The Show"

My Uncle is happy DIY is going to be HD so is my Grandma.

Let see, they just added some channels what a month ago, now they are adding at least 1 more (rumored) and people STILL aren't happy ....
Sheeeesh ...

They could add 10 more next month and people STILL wouldn't be happy.

No!

I'd be jubilant over any news that not one, not two, not three, but 10 HD were getting added by DirecTV!

I want every channel that DirecTV has only in standard definition, but which is also available in the format of high definition, to get added for customers of DirecTV.

I'm interested, particularly, with non-premium programmers' HD. There's a lot there for which DirecTV is behind. I'm ready for DIY Network's companion, Cooking Channel, in HD. Same with TV Land in HD. Investigation Discovery in HD. H2 in HD. Plenty beyond those few.

In the last year, the satellite provider has been gradually adding some key programming that could no longer escape notice. AMC HD. BBC America HD. E! Entertainment Television HD. Nat Geo Wild HD. truTV HD. Turner Classic Movies HD.

I want to praise DirecTV for adding the HD for Disney Junior.

We subscribers are all paying for the service from DirecTV! So, for any complaining -- well, keep in mind it means something is wrong and/or lacking with service.

I encourage DirecTV to go ahead and continue adding even more non-premium programming in high definition. We all don't have to agree on the specific programmers; but, ultimately, these recent additions, and the possible one that is the subject of this thread, is really good for DirecTV and for its subscribers.

This news about DIY Network in HD likely coming to DirecTV is positive.

People will not be happy until EVERYTHING is HD - even the shopping networks!

I think most of those complaining would be content, though not necessarily happy, if DirecTV carried channels in HD that most of the other major carriers have. When Dish, Comcast, Uverse, TWC, etc carry a channel in HD it makes one wonder why DirecTV - once the leader in HD - doesn't.

While I would like to see the two Chip mentioned in HD, I am content with what I have. :)

When cable and Dish already have most of these additions then the excitement is tempered a bit. The PAC 12 thing is bothersome. I am very happy to have BBC HD and my girls love Disney Jr, but I can see why some aren't ecstatic.

So at what point do they say "Were Good" for now ... ?

Just because someone has a channel that is in HD, doesn't mean we need it on D*.

Right now we have our HD and great resolution, I really don't want to see them adding channels just to add them and lose resolution over it.
Were at what 6 channels per transponder now, how many more can they put on them without losing quality.

I'll take QUALITY over quantity EVERY day.

Isn't Flashpoint on Network (for the current seasons) or is it a show that has been cancelled ?
Ithink for you to see Attack to come back, it will have to be someone else buying the rights, I don't see G4 anytime soon.

I think theres more too it that that.
In D*'s eyes, to have a channel in HD, it has to be a channel that brings enough interests and MONEY to them to make it worthwhile.

Just because DISH has a channel and AT&T has a different channel and TWC has another different channel, doesn't mean that D* has to carry all three of them.

No, but if Dish, AT&T and TWC all have the channel in HD it would seem reasonable for DirecTV to also carry it in HD and for customers to complain until they do. I believe DIY was such an example (not sure what systems had it in HD but multiple did) and am glad to see it finally coming.

In the case of H2, though not DirecTV's fault, programs I used to watch in HD I lost in HD when they moved to H2. I would just like to see programs like Modern Marvels in HD once again. I'm guessing it is more likely that DirecTV will make H2 HD than History will change it's programming back.

But yet noone complains when Directv has a channel and someone else doesnt, or even mentions it. Its always "Acme cable has X, why doesnt Direct? They suck! Sports leader, yeah right!"

I would like H2 though, I did enjoy Modern Marvels and never watch em now.

Pac-12 HD -

DIYHD -

Oprah Winfrey HD -

Glenn Beck Turdworks -

But thats the problem with it. As a provider, they have to cater in a way they can make most people happy. It's like all these Pac12 network threads I have to keep seeing at DBSTalk and elsewhere on the web. Do these guys really think on the grand scale of things that channel matters a damn? Maybe some delusional alumni. Get a grip man!

"Are you out of your vulcan mind?!"

QUOTE]

CBS shared the rights with CTV(in Canada) but CBS sold the US rights to ION TV for them to spilt the 4th season and giving ION all sydication rights. ION aired half of the new 4th season episodes and will air all of the 5th(and final) season. CBS always aired the episodes the same day as CTV but ION airs the new episodes one month behind

I agree with you. I am a bit frustrated about the PAC 12 situation myself, but I would never want DirecTV reducing my quality of service and stealing bandwidth from other channels or destroying the resolution (shout out to Dish!) of 1080i channels just to add sports channels that aren't very valuable to the average consumer and do not really do much to help DirecTV either. I am sure it will get worked out. But to answer your question, nothing short of adding every HD channel in existence will please everyone, and then people would complain that they are paying to put the stuff they don't watch on the air. You can't please everyone. DirecTV pleases me. That is all I really care about. I'd like to watch a couple of the PAC 12 games though. ;)

Fwiw, you have been able to do that already over the years on the Sports Pack, they basically were the Pac 10 network, you could watch them every week.

Now that they are making a Pac 10 network, it's gonna be harder and cost more than before ... go figure.

Oh, I'm very aware of that, but it isn't my job to keep up with all of these changes. A whole host of tv providers already have the network. The sports leader isn't amongst them and doesn't seem to want to be... It is a very Dish stance on this issue. It pisses me off, but not enough to get rid of the excellent service I receive otherwise. If I were a PAC 12 fan or alum and not SEC then I would already have my account on suspension waiting to see if I needed to cancel. We shall see what happens when the SEC gets its own network.

sec already have thier own network, it's called CBS.:)

I think D* is doing great with their HD channels--and be happy they aren't doing what Comcast did to me... I'm currently living in a spot where I couldn't get LOS to the satellites for any service (only a few more months!) so I had to give up D* and get Comcast for the time being (I got a Tivo Premiere that has made it bearable). That said, for the first 3 days of my service, I had pretty much all the movie channels in HD just like I did with D* (they haven't upgraded past the 3 Cinemax's that D* used to have, but the other packages are comparable)-- 3 days into it, they all drop to SD, except for main HBO, HBO2, main Showtime, main Cinemax, and main Starz...

Of course I called Comcast--D* had just turned on most all the premiums to HD... Comcast tried to tell me "The premium channels dropped their HD feeds due to low demand--no one carries them now"... took me 4 times to get a rep who told me what was going on--they up and decided to drop the premiums in HD to add more basic channels in HD... fair enough I reckon... so 2 weeks later what did I get? StyleHD, E!HD, G4HD, QVCHD, HSNHD, OxygenHD, LMNHD, FUSEHD, OutdoorHD, SportsmanHD (those 2 not even in my package) and a couple spanish channels, now in HD... I was livid.

I can't wait to go back to D*--I'll take a couple less HD channels (hmm... looks like the premiums got the boot so they could add mostly Comcast-owned women's crap and shopping) -- but hell, even with Comcast's tear of all these SD additions, I still don't have NatGeo Wild HD, DIYHD, H2 HD, or anything I really could care about--and made the premiums much less valuable to me (furthermore, only the West Coast feed is HD, so I can't record earlier on the DVR and reduce conflicts like I can with D*)... and while I'm away the last year it looks like D* has added a number of new HD channels I *do* care about--and have even added KVOS to the locals (MeTV) which was one of the bright spots about cable (along with Antenna TV) since I like the old TV shows that TV Land used to have before it totally got "mainstreamed" pffft (I also wish they'd add NWCN like Dish has, but I can deal without that one).

Yes! My DirecTV iOS app shows ION East HD starting at 6am 9/19 also shows DIY HD starting at 6am 9/19 Awesome!

I know I'll be able to see Flashpoint & WWE Main Event in HD, but I wonder about NWA Wrestling on Fire because its only going to air on select ION affiliates like New York City's and others in the NY/NJ/CT area. Does anyone know if ION East is the same channel lineup as ION NYC channel. I wonder if WPXN(ION NYC) ch 31 on my DirecTV will become a HD channel soon too or if it will stay a SD one?

My my, pretty soon there won't be anything left for the Dish trolls to whine or claim superiority about.. :D

WPXN proper (ion-NYC) is an over the air/must-carry local in NYC/NNJ on channel 31... ion East, which is one of its subchannels (31.1), is NOT must-carry. It's two separate feeds. Last I remember, WPXN is HD, but it most likely won't be added in HD on D* to coincide with ion.
