DISH's new IPTV Service to be called...

One thing I want to know is what is Dish going to do when the major isp's throttle their streaming service?
Dish will either pay up(if they do increased costs passed to customer) or will they just deal with it.

That's my main concern. And it is my assumption that Dish will place all kinds of disclaimers stating Dish waives all liability for ant service issues regarding any action by customer's ISP..
Of course the ISP's, especially those owned by cable companies will take their shots at this service by choking down their signals.
With that in mind, anything more than a few bucks a month is simply not worth it....

You have to start somewhere. Seems like a pretty decent start. There are many channels that would probably pay Dish (such as the shopping channels) to be added to the service.

My question is, with an OTT service, would the not OTT subscribers lose access to their streaming capabilities. That is the only way I can see the price being significantly less, if it is only OTT service, then you do not have the install, repair, even streaming costs. It would all just be authentications from DISH if I am understanding it correctly.

From the latest reports and articles I am reading the major isps are throttling down service at the point the ott/streaming service enters their networks. To the point where streaming video constantly buffers on "high speed" connections.

This is a completely separate service from Dish satellite. The satellite customers will continue to have access through Dishanywhere and the individual media companies apps.

Not everyone wants a 100 channel tv package, this is looking for a target price in the $30-$35 range and is targeted at millennials that mainly watch via tablets and computer or OTA, although if it is priced right and has a few big name channels, I can see a lot of regular subscription viewers wanting to switch

It's a big gamble for Dish because they might be turning a bunch of $100 a month customers into a bunch of $30 a month customers.

It's a possibility, but I doubt it. $100 a month customers have lots of equipment and/or programming, so I doubt they would lose many of them. Someone that only has 1 or 2 receivers with AT120 or AT200 might give it a go though.

I'm just sayin' it's a gamble. Even if a bunch of $50 or $60 a month customers switch to $30 a month the bean counters will quickly notice it on the bottom line. It's a gamble, but we all know that Charlie is a gambler.

I'm sure that if the subs start churning to the ott service that old Charlie could come up with some new internet connection fee : PER DEVICE,to make up for some of the lost revenue from the regular sub fees.

I dropped my Dish Network package (and subsequently quit hanging out at SatelliteGuys.us since I was in OTA Land again and life got busy around the same time) back in 2012. It was a tough call, but the $100/mo bill was just too much strain on the budget. I've managed to scrape by with a Roku, Netflix and Amazon Prime (which I had before just for the free shipping) and an OTA antenna.

Assuming this NuTV thing is as we think it will be, I will be the first in line. I like the channels they seem to have picked up, and I think the price point is reasonable. Almost all the announced channels are channels my family would watch.

Does anyone know if this will be delivered to an existing STB like the Roku or will they have their own hardware? (This is my concern... what will the hardware cost if I have to buy it from them?)

A new mini-bundle from AT&T (T -0.5%) aimed at cord-cutters and cord-nevers will include broadband services, select basic cable channels, HBO, and Amazon Prime.
The service will be priced at an introductory rate of $40 per month for a year after which a strong upsell effort from the company would be expected.
A slimmed-down package from Dish Networks is expected to debut before the end of the year.
What to watch: Pay-TV industry executives have expressed confidence that the cheaper packages will attract new customers - instead of cannibalizing their base subscribers from the +$100/month level. It's a view not shared by some media analysts who warn of a new era of deal-hopping between pay-TV and broadband providers.

I wonder if the NuTv will be accessed through any regular equipment like the smart tvs or the blu ray players ,etc? If it isn't easily widely assessable ,then their new service won't matter. I don't want to have to buy another box like the Roku player ,just to see DISH's NuTv service.
