Dish sent me a couple yellow access cards for my receivers yesterday. My older 2700 receiver took the card and after registering the new cards to the receiver on the website, it immediately worked.
My Dishplayer 7100 is another story...
I keep getting the screen about card activation, so last night before bed, I left my Dishplayer off (but plugged in) hoping some 3am download magic would fix it. No deal.
I tried pulling the card, turning off, unplugging the reeiver 5 minutes - nothing works. I always get brought back to the card upgrade screen. I called Dish and repeated these things over the phone with the addition of holding the power button down for 5 seconds and letting the Dishplayer run a 5 minute reboot cycle. Still no go!
Ultimately Dish resorted to sending me out another yellow card to try in 7 days. They had me put the blue card back in and everything is fine again.
I hope they just sent me a bum yellow card and the replacement will work. I've had trouble with my Dishplayer for years with weird stuff happening, but I can always get it going with a little patience and trying different things (usually the 3am download fixes most). I don't have a landline, so there's no way to nuke and pave with a fresh download off the phone.
Has anyone else experienced yellow card upgrade problems with their 'original' Dishplayers (not talking about 501, 508 or 510 Dishplayers)?
Any tricks you may have used to get a yellow card to work with your Dishplayer? I'm not so sure that my yellow card is defective. I remember when I first bought my Dishplayer in 2000 or so (as a refurb).. Dish had alot of trouble getting the receiver on their network. I don't know what they did to get the programming to take to it.
I say "if it aint broke, don't fix it". So why does Dish want to break my perfectly-working-with-blue-card Dishplayer? Is there a possibility I could just keep the blue card in it indefinitely?
