I had Fios in the DC suburbs until April. I just got dish and the 722 in August. I'm still waiting to see what makes the 722 so great. I was very used to the motorola, it had some short comings but some things it did well.
things I don't like about the 722 so far:
if I hit record, just record the program!! don't bring up a menu, try to guess what I want, make go through options to only record once or for how long before/after. then I hit "create timer" and it sits and searches for a second or two.
on the motorola, you hit record and it records all or the rest of the program. if you hit record twice, it sets up a recurring recording (if the episode is new it selects new only, if a rerun it selects all).
on the motorola those shows were very easy to find and edit the details of (ie, channels, times, how many to keep). It's hard to find that menu on the 722.
also, on the 722, there are too many places for options and system settings and I never know where to go to find them. the motorola was a bit lacking, but I knew where to go to find things.
to me, so far, the only real advantage of the 722 is larger hard drive and capability for external storage. everything else is pretty comparable in my mind or worse on the 722.
Also, FiOS with the free HD is so much a better set up, and the picture quality was better both on SD and HD, plus the $16/month movie package for TMC and starz together was a total steal. I also miss having BBC america, Fox Soccer, VS and some other obscure channels in the base package, with Dish I can't justify paying for the 250 pack or whatever it is now.
