Hi,

I'm new here but I hope you guys can help me out. I bought a dish 721 DVR receiver on ebay. Well, I received it the other day and tried to activate it with dish (i've had service with them for like 10 years now). Well, they told me they cannot activate it, because the receiver ID number is incorrect (the R00.. number).

The rep told me to call the owner and ask them what happened to the receiver ID. I argued, saying the barcode on the back had that number, and on the TV screen, it would pull up the same number under system info. WHAT other number was she looking for? This was a brand new receiver.

I hung up, called again, and talked to someone else. They told me this time that it was still active under another account, so they couldn't activate it under my account. How could this be active under another account, when it was brand new in the box?

How can I get around this issue? The seller hasn't responded now and possibly he knew what was going on with it. What solutions are there for me? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The are not allowed to because of injunction from Tivo which claims that the 721 infringes on TIVO's software patients.

Current 721 owners can use their 721 as long as they keep it active, however no more 721's can be activated by Dish Network.

I bet you got a good deal on that 721, and this is the reason why.

I haven't been taken to the cleaners yet, I paid with payal and it's guaranteed for $200, so I can file a complaint and get my money back. However, I really want to be able to use this receiver. I think the problem lies within dish, their stupidity somewhere. How can they not activate a brand new receiver I purchased?

Good luck getting the money back from Paypal. I don't know anyone thats been successful in doing it.

Dish is prohibited BY LAW activating that model receiver.

If you didn't understand Scott's post (included here for your reference) read it again; it will answer your questions. You were suckered; file that complaint now

I think all MPEG2 HD channels go away in August, so you won't get HD on it for long even if they activated it. This may be another reason why they won't activate it.

The 721 is not a HD receiver. It's a SD only receiver. I loved mine and it worked great until a few days ago and it seems to have died. I decided to upgrade to hd and upgrade to a 722 however I Wish my 721 still was working.
