Dish thru Optical Tel

I live in a condo that has Dish provided by Optical Tel.
I have a vip722 dvr and two vip211k boxes.
I have been informed that I can't take advantage of using a external hard drive with my 211's because of Optical Tel.
If I were to purchase another 722 on Ebay, is there anyway it would work? Smart card?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried? Either they'll take your $40 or they won't.

Why even talk to Optical Tel? Just buy an external hard drive, call Dish and then have them activate the feature. It should not matter who installed the service.

If it's bundled/billed by OpticalTel then it wouldn't be the first time features have been limited in third party billing scenarios.

It's also possible whoever he talked to didn't have a clue.

I have spoken to Dish. Boy, is that frustrating. They claim they can't do it being I live in a community serviced by Optical Tel.

Wow, I have never heard of this. We have Iowatelecom in our area and I've never heard of this happening. What a screw.

Sounds like it is a commercial account. Have you talked with the commercial department? Not your average CSR

Yup, happens a lot. A certain company or dealer makes a deal with the landlord and puts in the equipment for a multi dwelling account and they have the exclusive rights to sell Dish in that building.

I've spoken to the commercial dept at dish. I'm stuck with Optical Tel. Guess they want to rent more 722k's.
