DISH Tech support says DISH 1000 for Connecticut?

Today I signed up for the DISHn' it up promotion. I will be getting a ViP622 installed on Friday. Currently, I have a 501 receiver and a Dish Pro Plus Twin LNB with a dish 500.

The Dish technical support person that I spoke with told me that they would be installing a DISH 1000 (in order to receive satellites 119, 110, and 129). I live in eastern Connecticut, so I thought that I would need to add a 2nd dish pointing at 61.5. When I asked the technical support person about this he said that I was wrong, they do not install a 2nd dish, and I would be able to receive 129 with no problems with a Dish 1000 in Connecticut.

I thought that the signal from 129 was weak in eastern Connecticut and that I would be better off using a 2nd dish at 61.5. Since I already have a DPP LNB, I thought that it would be simple for the installer to add a 2nd dish (no extra wiring is needed, just add a 2nd dish with a DP Dual LNB and a DPP separator).

Is the Dish technical support person correct about the DISH 1000 in Connecticut? Wouldn't I be better off with a 2nd dish at 61.5? Is there any difference in what programming that I can receive using 129 vs 61.5?

A Dish 1000 works fine here in Connecticut. I have installed a number of them without issue. :)

Although I would rather have a 61.5 Dish then a Dish 1000.

129 is a crippled satellite so the signal numbers are much lower than 61.5

plus you're on the edge of the footprint there

Because I hear the PQ on the MPEG2 HD channels is better on 61.5 then they are at 129.

Of course with it all moving over to MPEG4 soon it might not matter anyways.

I upgraded to a 622 and HD in Sept. '06. The CSR said they would swap out my Dish 500 with a Dish 1000. When I questioned the "weak 129" issues I had read about here and asked for a second dish for 61.5, I was told that the single dish option was standard, even for CT.

When the installer came out, he said he didn't do Dish 1000 installs, there were too many signal issues with 129. I got my second dish, pointed at 61.5.

If you don't mind the second dish, I would go with that option....

Thanks for the quick replies!

You both have confirmed my suspicion that I would be better off using 61.5. What I am afraid of, is that when the installer shows up on Friday, he will insist on installing the Dish 1000 (either 'because that's what they always do'...or because he won't have what he needs with him to install the 2nd dish).

If the installer insists on installing the dish 1000... Do you guys know if there is any way that I can remove the 129 LNB from the dish 1000 and install it in an old Dish 300 that I have, then point it to 61.5? Will that work?

If he installs a 1000, then YES you can remove the DP Dual LNB and put it on a D300 or D500. If he installs a 1000.2 then the answer is NO. The LNB in the 1000.2 is a triple LNB (one piece).

I'm in Eastern CT, and I have a Dish 500 and Dish 300 at 61.5, and everything works great. I would be worried if I had to get the 129 sat because of trees. My line of site to 61.5 is perfect.

61.5 and 129 sats

I stumbled across oyu potst and have a question. I'm in central arkansas. I have the Dish 1000. I Have the HDTV channels and the VOOM channels. the installation guys says I'd have a weak signal on 129 because of some limbs (which I have removed). I stilll have a weak signal 50%. I've heard the discussion about hsvig the dish at 61.5 is better. My 61.5 signal is 97%. What's the difference in the programming between the 2 satellites . Is some of the programming the same and so it's better on the 61.5 sat?
Is 129 fairly low to the horizon? Maybe I haven't removed enough limbs. THanks for any information you may have.

Can I change frequency on 622 remote?
