DISH Statement on Stella Passage

I take it another way

Dish will be able to provide a full network package to every subscriber. Why should they care whether the channels are "distant" or "local" ?

Any, as Nelson pointed out, they will once again be able to provide Distants to RV and boat subscribers.

I think that you will be able to get your "next" door DMA w/in state of the channels that are missing only.

DMA you are within

In my county I live between 2 cities and both Dish and DirecTV could not give me both cities locals, but cable could. So my question would be will this end cable's advantage of being the only one in our county to be able to provide both cities locals?.

I don't think so. You will get 1 DMA not both.

The Arkansas Congressman has a great point. However , it is not broad enough. There are millions of senior Americans who have more than one home for which they pay taxes. I have homes in T:mad: winter) and NH( summer). Each season I switch my locals . I want both of them all year long. There have been many weather/political events that have affected my properties that I don't get good coverage of when I am out of state. In fact, my wife is a citizen of NH and I of Texas. We do this to give ourself a vote in each state. Most of the 2 state seniors don't split citizenship in each state. They have taxation without representation. This was the major reason for the Revolutionary War.

So I think I'm understanding you. I live in Florida, my area DMA is Panama City. So your saying that the CBS I'm missing will have to be in state, and not the closer one in Dothan AL??

Sorry if I'm not understanding you, or does this pertain to people with RV's??

Thanks in advance.

it will be a nearby DMA...doesnt have to be in state

In your case, Dothan CBS is the du facto CBS for Panama City. Conversely, Dothan will get NBC from Panama City (since they dont have NBC in Dothan).

The fill in stations will usually follow a couple things
-probably the same as what cable has
-spotbeam maps will be big. Here is an example. Mankato MN gets on cable Minneapolis locals and some from the Austin/Albert Lea/Rochester MN/Mason City IA DMA. The issue is on satellite the spotbeam for that market doenst cover Mankato so on D* we get Mankato CBS (the only station in the market) + the other BIg 4 nets from Minneapolis. Spotbeam covers that area

Thanks Iceberg, I figured as much. Just what I wanted a SD CBS to go along with my HD Locals. :D

Hopefully somewhere along the line Dothan will be in HD too.

I appreciate your response.

I hear ya!

Dothan CBS is in HD on Direct TV and also COMCAST Cable...... not sure why DISH doesn't offer Dothan in HD?

If and when we ever get CBS back on DISH it wouldn't bother me to get WCTV from Tallahassee which is in HD!

On S. 3333 under title 17 of the US Code, what's "statutory license" for secondary transmissions mean?

I've read the bill.

My understanding is that "statutory license" means the legal authority granted by Congress to satellite providers (or cable operators) to re-transmit copyrighted material broadcast (or perhaps distributed) by a primary transmission (e.g., TV station) without running afoul of copyright restrictions.

If I am incorrect, correction is requested.

Thanks.

I'm actually closer to Tallahassee, that's why I asked the in state question.Iceberg informed me that Panama City would get Dothan CBS, and Dothan will get Panama City NBC. I'm about 90 miles from Tallahasse, and around 120 from Dothan.

Is your AAD CBS in HD now?

Did you have to get a waiver?

Yes I get my CBS from AAD. I get HD from Chicago and LA.

No I didn't get a waiver, when Dish turned off the CBS local here Dish had me call AAD and I had to give them all my info. I had the SD version when Dish lost their distants, and just converted to HD about a year or so ago.

I wanted to have my sister get CBS too and ADD required her to get a waiver. When I asked why I didn't need a waiver, they said I was grandfathered in. I have AAD for quite sometime. I hope this helps

Joe

Will I be grandfathered in for my AAD channels when Dish starts doing distants again? I have waivers for NBC, ABC, and CBS from AAD. I don't want to go thru the waiver stuff again with Dish. I think Dish should grandfather all those who have waivers thru AAD.

I don't know about that. I know that the STELA law will soon be signed by the President into law.

Not sure where your located, but I would think Dish would provide you with your CBS, NBC, and ABC, They most likely won't be the feeds your now getting from ADD. They should be in your nearest DMA.

I live in Panama City FL DMA. PC has no CBS, so I get my CBS from AAD. Right now I get the LA and Chicago feeds of CBS. When this bill becomes law, I'll get my CBS from Dothan AL. No waiver should be needed. Dish is giving you what you had to get from AAD.

Hope I made sense. If I'm wrong, maybe someone else can't explain it a bit better.

Thanks Joe!

Like you I have been waiting a long time for "E" to get our CBS back to us..... and it looks like that may just happen before to long.

I'm hoping that "E" will get Dothan's locals in HD format without having to wait for 4 years like we have waited to get our Dothan CBS back up for the Panama City DMA.

Not real sure how committed "E" is in getting HD locals for those of use in a number 172 DMA....... we are pretty far down the line....... but "D" and COMCAST have Dothan locals in HD and maybe..... one day we will be surprised!
