Well,
I finally got exhausted of seeing the same 866 # on my Caller ID every two hours for the past week and answered it last night - even though it was almost 9pm.

It was DISH Network's retention department calling me since I dropped service last Tuesday.

-- First off, they don't even have Americans working the retention department. C'mon DISH, enough with the offshore crap. I couldn't understand a damn word she was saying - and this is how you're trying to save customers?

-- Second, she was shocked to hear that I knew about the new pricing coming out. I was like, "yes, dear, i'm more than aware of it". Then I think she said she could give me a $10 discount for 6 months or something, but like I said, she was very hard to hear.

-- Third, after I told her to please stop calling my house, all I heard was "okay, thank you". <click>

Luckily my "return boxes" are set to arrive today - and I can finally rid myself of this mess.

Laff, yep, same thing with me when they called except caller ID had all 0's. But name said Dish network.

Anyways, same experience with the person calling, barely any decent english. Told them they priced themselves out of competition with cable in my area after the increases. They offered me free premiums, monthly discount for a year. I asked for no DVR fees and they wouldn't do it.

I also told them HD PQ was going downhill, so not worth my money. Of course, none of this was not in a quick manner as I kept having to tell her to repeat herself and she kept interruptting me. oh well.

The phone rang, my wife picked up and said to me "I think it's Dish Network for you, but it's hard to understand her"

I just hung up.

When Cable calls at least I can understand what they say and I know by subscribing to Cable I am helping pay the salary of locals. :up

They apparently don't take calls, they call you, after you cancel. Not really a good way to retain someone IMO. more like trying to get them back. Kinda like a bad breakup and then Dish comes to their senses and says "Please take me back, I'll do anything. oh wait. except that or that! You want what? nevermind."
 
If they want to retain customers they should stop screwing long time subs and give them the same deals noobs get.

What's the sense of calling someone a week or so later after you quit. By then you've already made other arrangements with cable or Direct and have that companies equipment installed. And if it's direct, your locked into a committment so you couldn't go back if you wanted too(unless you want to pay some serious $$$). Stupid business practice if you ask me.
 
Oh believe me these calls do work on some people. Normally we do not switch customers to Directv unless the customer specifically calls and asks us to.

I had this one lady and she cancelled Directv after 3 days, and then to get out of the committment with Directv she sent back the equipment I installed for FREE.

That was a fun phone call with her when she called me to question the charges! Gee lady, return my equipment and I'll refund your money.
 
Same thing happened at my shop about a year ago.
 
Well, I finally got my first box yesterday and just dropped my 622 off at the UPS dropoff to go back.

Naturally, they never sent a 2nd box - so now I had to get one sent through the CEO email address - and it won't be here until next Tuesday for my 211.

But, they did waive me from having to go up on the roof and send back the LNB's.
 
My guess for the reason why they will not always give you a deal at the time you want to cancel but want to call back later to give you an offer is due to the fact that they know that people call in all the time threatening to cancel. Actually cancelling the service is the only way I know that they were serious.

I had a customer that switched to Directv and was called by Dish Network. They waived the credit card requirement and installed the DVR for free with the 18 month commitment. That customer was going to come to me to switch back over but Dish Network got the customer instead. Its funny how they will leap backwards for some while for others they will not even waive the $24.99 activation fee if someone wants to use their old equipment and reactivate the hardware.
 
LOL for when vaseline just isn't enough. Dish retention to the rescue!!!

Eh, whatever dude. Comcast's subcontracted telemarketers call me *EVERY DAY* yes, every single F-ing day I get a call from this number that I looked up, and yes other people get it too. What? Yep.. comcast ads and I AM AN F-ING COMCAST CUSTOMER (for their cable internet, yes)
 
OoTLink. what's going on in that post? You seem a bit bitter, but I am not sure what exactly it has to do with the Dish retention dept. :)
