Dish remote and DVD player control?

I was trying to set up the Dish remote that came with the Vip622 to control my Panasonic S35 dvd player. I tried all the codes listed for that brand, and none of them will allow the directional arrows to control the on screen menus. Power, play, ffwd, etc. all work. I know everyone is going to say get a harmony remote, but this is for the spare room (already getting a harmony for the den) so I'd rather just use the Dish remote if possible.

No response there yet either. Has ANYONE here tried using the Dish remote with a Panasonic dvd player? Do the arrow buttons normally work with other brands? I've been wanting to get a dvd recorder anyway, so hoping that might solve the issue indirectly.
