Dish receiver finds very little Ota channels

Were you able to receive a few channels like mine or no channels at all?

My 612 (can't speak for all of them) never performed well using OTA, my TV and other tuners I tried always were able to pick up more channels with almost no breakups. The 612 was always losing signal and breaking up. Finally it ended up dying and now a channel scan picks up like 3 channels and it can't hold a signal if you tune to them. The antenna is in the attic so it doesn't move, single coax going to the receiver. Same scenario and the 722k picks up 70+ and the signal is 75%-100% and never breaks up.

For years I changed antennas, moved it from the attic to the roof and never was happy with the 612 performance. I think it was a bad tuner all along.

Hello, I recently plugged my outdoor tv antenna into my vip211k dish receiver and am only able to receive 6 channels (sometimes 11) while my tv, hdhomerun and android tv box can all pick up 70+ channels. I went in and changed a few different setting related to ota in the menu but it didn't help. Do you think there's an issue with my receiver or are the tuners in theses generally very weak?

I have the vip211k and use an outdoor antenna. Make sure you use the right coax connection on the back of the 211k for the antenna. I didn't one time and got a lot less in signal. I get about the same in signal off any of my OTA TVs and tuners. I am 12.2 air miles from the translators, pretty much LOS and I get 100% on all. It doesn't matter which TV or tuner I am using. At least in my case, the 211k is pretty sensitive. If your antenna is working properly and you get good signals on your TV, you should be getting the same with the 211k's tuner. If not, and you are sure you are connecting to the antenna in coax connection, then it must be an defective OTA tuner in the receiver I would guess.

For the Hopper press Info then Recall to see the OTA signal level.

This is what I hate about that CUI. Why does everything have to be a PITA compared to VIP receivers?
OTA tuner is bad, I have a 612 in the closet that failed the same way.

Yes, I think you 612 had a bad OTA tuner. My two leased 612's, after years of yeoman service, went hard of hearing on the satellite tuners and not the OTA tuner. (Dish replaced them both.)

Thanks for the help everyone, based on your responses, it seems likely that the tuner is bad, have you had any issue with dish replacing receivers for faulty for customer alleged faulty ota? I don't have the service plan and I can already here them telling me that if I receive 6-11 channels the issue is not with the receiver..

We need the DIRT team back. (Scott was working on that last week at Team Summit.) They are the best of the best and won't give you a stupid runaround like other CSRs will.

I had a vip211 receiver and the ota tuner completely died. I went from 47 channels to 0 channels. Dish wanted to schedule a service call but I don't have the protection plan so I spoke to a supervisor and they agreed to send me a replacement tuner (vip211k) and I was back to my 47 channels with the 211k, so the ota tuners can fail.
