First off, this is PURE UNADULTERATED SPECULATION. I could be mireading this info.
I received an uplink report showing that KSAT was now being mirrored at the top of the Houston local range. In the past Dish has only done this when there is a potential retransmission consent issue. I made a not of this in the "changes" of www.dishchannelchart.com.
About 30 minutes ago I received info that "channel 2" which was also uplinked today to channel 9875 (a prime location from "information slates") is tied to the following stations:
(8372) KPRC Houston, TX NBC 2,
(6205 & 8470) KSAT San Antonio, TX ABC 12
(8032) WDIV Detroit, MI NBC 4
(9057) WJXT Jacksonville, FL 4
(8271) WKMG Orlando, FL CBS 6
(8830) WPLG Miami, FL ABC 10
A little research found that these stations are all owned by Post-Newsweek.
So...putting 2 & 2 together, I am adding up that Dish and Time-Newsweek are at an impasse in retransmission consent contract talks and Dish is getting ready to either drop the stations or having them pulled by Time-Newsweek!
I have no real info but here is the station group owner's info:
Post-Newsweek Stations, Inc. (NYSE : WPO) A Division of Washington Post Co.
3 Constitution Plaza,
Hartford, CT 06103
Phone: 860-493-6530
Fax: 860-493-2490

See ya
