Hmm is this a hint?

January 6th... It is the same day DISH is holding its big CES Press Conference... could be something could be something... and I honestly don't know.

That's ABC appeasing the carriers, in a modified way that HBO does. In fact it's exactly addressing what Charlie mentioned in the AMC dispute, the easy availability of programming online that DISH is being asked to pay a premium for.

They are predicting we will be paying over $7.65 a sub for Espn come 2018 from the $5.54 per sub today. I read an article saying that someone will have to stand up to ESPN and the sports channels over the price or this will basically bring an end to the current sat/cable model of today. They point to Charlie Ergen being the one to stand up to them and make the channels ala cart or premium sports pack. I just wonder if the hold up we are having now is because 2014 maybe the year Charlie makes his stand?

Seriously non of this surprises me at all, what you expect when these networks been fighting AutoHop since its introduction, So I definitely see why there stalling in these negotiations, You honestly think is about digital rights think again, as much as both want to make you believe otherwise, nothing is going to change unless they limit or remove AutoHop, Is evident in these lawsuits that they(Networks) keep losing but keep trying.

I do not agree though none of us can know for certain. Everything points to digital rights including the post just a few back about delaying ABC programming. If ABC had no intention of allowing the Autohop, I firmly believe negotiations would not be so silent, by far the most kept secret of any long negotiaton I can remember. And unless DISH is willing to end it for all networks they can't end it for ABC, so again what would be the point of both sides continuing negotiations while the programming is still on the air. Network affiliates take themselves off at the drop of a hat. I just think this is deeper than that, and involves longer term agreements.

That almost always happen in every negotiation when they limit or remove online programming to entice viewers to put pressure on TV providers.

Edit: I see you mean watch abc go as the list of providers participating.

Sorry - don't buy it. What percentage of DISH subs even use AutoHop? Much ado about nothing, IMO. A few token lawsuits, nothing more. Gotta be the digital rights angle.

Could be as well maybe, but I think is more than just digital rights, I could be a host of things like Hopper technology, Dish as the whole company or Charlie himself.

I guess what I'm trying to look is the big picture and trend that's been going on these several months, And it seems IMO that is more than digital rights.

when does CES starts and when can we hear about something is scott going to CES?
CES is this upcoming weekend starts on Sunday and goes into next week. Scott and others do go, Though they review and discuss many products that are unveiled, not only Dish products and services

For all that Scott does and the Satguys team, there should be more recognition(not that there isn't one already) in this years CES from Dish or Directv, perhaps in the marketing dept?

Here's my wild speculation and why the language of the delay seems to revolve around digital streaming. I think Dish's pursuit of Wireless carrier spectrum has more to do with Charlie/Dish wanting to get further away from satellite only and move more toward a full featured internet based video delivery as well. Satellites are expensive. They want to offer the same packages/channels they offer from the satellite and deliver them over LTE, if they are both the distributer of content as well as the pipe by which it is delivered they are generating revenue from both. It's called vertical integration. ESPN/Disney wants a piece of the streaming pile and wants to make sure the language of a long term contract includes alternate methods of digital distribution which may come along in the next few years. As I said, this is just my opinion from what I've read. I just hope the deal is done by the 6th so I can watch the National Championship game on WatchESPN as I'll be at work.

Well ABC already said they will delay online content by a week unless you are a sub for certain providers - Dish and Direct are not on the list. So whatever deal they are doing hasn't done squat for that issue either.

That's my exact point. That is the reason or one of that the deal is not done yet. That is part of digital rights. Even if they have come to an agreement on that, you don't know that yet, the contract isn't complete and signed.....
