Dish Price Increase Coming - 11/16/2021

If they ever take away my Welcome Pack(hopefully never), I would consider Flex Pack basic and movie pack add on, if I do not just go straight streaming.
I feel the same. We have Welcome Pack and the Dish Movie Pack. I have entertained the idea of dropping the Dish Movie Pack and maybe going with the Encore add-on to save a little bit. However, I like that we get access to Encore, Epix, and Starz with the Dish Movie Pack. I know Philo has Starz and Epix now, but it is a little cheaper although not exactly the same with Dish.

regarding the Welcome Pack, we just noticed they removed the several music channels that had previously been included.
-side not (maybe not coincidental) we had to hard reset our Dish equipment last night because our DVR function stopped (211k w/ attached EHD)
I think someone finally realized they forgot to turn off the free preview of the music channels. It feels like it has been a few years because I remember listening to the music when working on college work. Maybe we can luck out again this holiday season. I like the music channels but not sure if it is worth the extra money. One could probably even get Sirius XM service standalone although I read it is a nightmare to cancel. LOL I enjoyed the free preview during the pandemic of the standalone service without giving my personal information. I do not know if you saw my pervious reply in another thread, but one can add the Latino Bonus Pack to get the music channels for $10/month: https://my.dish.com/upgrades/latino/latino-bonus
 
I'm not quite one full month of having cancelled Dish. I'm surviving! Everyone has their limit and mine was surpassed a while ago. With these continued price increases, I just can not see Dish et al stopping the hemorrhaging of subscribers.

I just cancelled sirius/xm a month ago-it wasn't a" nightmare ."Yes ,I did have to pickup a phone and talk to a human.Yes,they made me an offer(that I refused).Yes I would have preferred to one click cancel via internet.
That was my experience anyway.

All Traditional Providers are losing subscribers ( I believe DirecTV has the biggest loss, 21 million down to 13 million).

While for some, price is a issue, loss of content is another people are not paying attention to, most new content that was broadcast/cable channels only is available via streaming same day or next day and now content is premiering first via streaming before being on broadcast/cable channels, FX, AMC, CBS and Disney are the biggest example.

A study just came out that shows, for Traditional Services, loss of subscribers will not get any better-

The number of people who have cut the cord and moved to the more custom approach to TV of streaming has been on the rise during the last decade. Currently, 25% of homes in the U.S. are signed up for broadband internet services without pay-TV, and that number is only expected to rise. According to research from TDG, 54 million households will be broadband-only by 2025, a 42 percent increase from 2020’s 38 million.

It is easy to see why this trend continues. Outside of sports, there is very little new and original on live TV these days. Virtually every channel has become more of a ‘rerun’ channel than anything else. Why pay big bucks to watch reruns that are available all over the place for low or no cost?

For me, live TV only has Golf and Boxing that I can’t get in other ways. Are those 2 sports worth the $50+ cost to get? Sadly, for me the answer is no.

You left out the ever-popular reality TV programs that are popping up everywhere. They may be new and original on first run, but then they are rerun ad infinitum as well. I don't watch these, but it would appear somebody is or they would vanish off the airwaves.

No sports channels locals now missing and new additions are just old reruns
Based on the Sinclair's situation with their Diamond sports plan, I've got to imagine that Bally Sports is heading back to Dish very soon cause they need the money a lot more than Dish needs Bally Sports.

As a reminder "soon" is a registered trademark of Dish.

The problem is if Sinclair sells the channels back to Dish at a discount (better price), Comcast, Charter, DirecTV, etc will want the same deal ( if cheaper then what they pay), which means less revenue for Sinclair.

Then the added problem of less and less subscribers to Traditional Service, RSN’s are largely funded by per sub on a service, even if the majority do not watch the channel(s).

Between a rock and a hard place Sinclair is in.

We are already in a major shift in how we receive programming.

First we had original content on Netflix like services, then everyone ( CBS, Disney, etc) wanted their own version of Netflix, showing older and original content, now more and more content is being pulled from Broadcast/Cable channels, premiering first or at the same time to be on the streaming services.

My guess is in about 2 years, the majority of new content on Cable/Broadcast Channels will be reruns since they will be on the streaming services first.

By the way, about two years ago, I predicted this would happen and posted it in the Cord Cutters Forum, except I wrote it would take about 10 years, happening a lot faster then I thought.

Yep it is happening fast. We have four pay app services now. Sure isn't convenient as our Hopper/Joey system.

Good to know. Glad you shared your experience. I suppose some people do not like human interaction at all. I do not always but will do so if necessary.
