DISH Price Increase 1/17/2013 (UPDATED!)

Well to be fair, including the price freeze,in 3 years time Dish has raised the rates by $11 if you have dvr service. That's right on par with others or maybe a lil bit more in some cases.

Yup, thanks for being a customer and to show our speciation we will be raising your price 5 bucks. Yay :-)

The evolutionary formation of new biological species, usually by the division of a single species into two or more genetically distinct ones.

Somehow, a strangely appropriate typo.

I am about ready to pull the trigger on downgrading from AEP anyways and only picking up premiums when they air the original programming I do watch. I'm going to wait and see what they do with the credits on my bill first. The one package that I am about ready to drop is the Blockbuster@Home package and just pick up the EPIX channels for $7/month. Yes I know I'll be losing channels (and DVD by Mail) but I really don't watch anything other than EPIX anyways and 90% the movies I get by mail have already aired on HBO the week prior.

Yep, it's the whole letter that's stupid. They must think that we are dumb, and have a short term memory. They jack their prices up 2 years ago, freeze them until now, and then tell me that they did me a favor by freezing them, AND now tell me that since I'm such a great dude, they're raising me another 6 bucks...alrighty then! :D
How about just stop with the flattery already, and just tell me that you're raising prices.

I don't normally do amen posts but.....Amen!! Preach it dahenny!

Thekrell, I would not say I am ok with the increase. I understand that it was inevitable and I accept that. I am by no means happy about though.

Navy, I didn't notice what my phone changed my word to, but your response cracked me up. :-)

This reminds me of a boss I worked for in the mid 80's. I was hospitalized for a month, and he came to see me. He assured me not to worry, I would be paid for the time I'm sick. I thanked him and thought that was nice (but I was on salary anyway, so it shouldn't a matter). Fast forward 5 months later...Bonus time! I'm ask to come into his office, then he tells me that the pay they gave me while I was sick would be deducted from my bonus! Leaving me with almost nothing from the bonus. There wasn't anything I could say, except OK. It's always about the money!

So my dad got his "Thank You" card saying his bill is going to be $6 more but they have an exclusive offer only for our best customers and they talk about the 1/2 price thing

The other document? The "deal" about the 1/2 off that says "SHHHHHH only for existing customers"

hmmmm thought only the "best customers" got that deal ;)

Good catch.I never even noticed that.

I showed that part to my dad and he responded with "my bill aint going up"...so it sounds like he might drop to AT200

But if its anything like his landline phone (for 2 years he says he is gonna get rid of it but he still has it) he just bitches about it...then he forgets until the next month when it does go up (or the billing is screwed up)

A lil on the stubborn side eh?:D

Yup, I got the same exact thing in the mail yesterday. Too bad they won't tell me what that half priced offer is until tomorrow. My guess is that it'll be for BB@Home (as useless as that will be.)

yup. For 2 years he was going to go cellphone only but he's one of them who listens to the smooth talker salespeople when he gets on the phone and then he gets a deal. I told him to get rid of the landline and just keep the internet.
Its funny as he'll drop what he's doing to drive to the gas station when he finds out that they are going to raise prices (usually Superamerica raises 1st and Kwik Trip waits til later in the day). I laugh when he says "I only had 40 miles on that tank but there is 50 cents they wont get from me" yet I went through and printed him a comparison between AT200 & 250 and he says "oh I cant get rid of GAC and VH1 classic...I might watch them"
OK dad the pay $10 more for 2 channels and quit whining

One other thing I noticed in the letter was dish said (I forget the exact working) but something like "oh our competitors raised prices $5 each year"

ummm no they didnt. Not D* at least. Per my bills (I have a spreadsheet of each month)
2011 it went up $2 (the extra receiver fee did go up)
2012 it went up $3
2013 it varies between 2-3 bucks (depending on package)

thats not $5 a year ;)
