DISH OTA antenna

Yeah I was going to say the same thing.

Although it works, the antenna is too close to the roof.

The installer should have used a separate mount for the antenna
Like I said before it's not perfect. And, yes, I would have preferred a separate mount higher up from the roof but the bottom line was to keep it as inconspicuous as possible, preventing the wrath of my HOA, and give me access to my blacked-out locals...which it does.

But if it's really bugging you, next time you're in my neck of the woods bring along your tools and you can redo the installation to your exacting standards and I might even make you dinner as a way of saying thanks. :p

I'd be more concerned with how that mounting bracket is attached. Doesn't even look like all the available bolt holes are being used against the soffit.

When it was originally installed last year the tech (under supervisor guidance) used a stud finder and it's bolted solidly into the fascia; it's solid and goes nowhere.

FYI, the HOA has no legal standing to prevent you from installing an OTA antenna. They may think they do, but the FCC says otherwise. For that matter, they cannot prevent the small dish antennas such as those for Dish either. Over-the-Air Reception Devices Rule

Oh I've always understood that but it's easy to say "you can have an antenna" in an internet forum when in real life you have neighbors and HOA management that stick their noses into everything, watch everybody 24/7 and can make your life miserable. I've gone to meetings and have never seen such a bunch of petty, childish and vengeful people in my life; middle schoolers have better manners. When it comes to anything I do to my house I try to "fly under the radar" so no eyebrows are raised.

Got mine installed today and this is, indeed, the antenna they installed

I went to the link for the antenna and in the fine print it said something like “Some Dish Anywhere features will be disabled for OTA channels”.
Any idea what that means? I can understand no PTAT but am unclear what DA features aren’t available.
Thx

I don't know, once it is hooked up, I guess I will figure that out. First, probably a generic term covering stuff just in case it does not work. Second, aren't some feeds directly from the source instead of going thru your Hopper? For example, I would think that if you do not subscribe to an ABC local you will not get access to direct ABC streaming?

I know the bolded is correct. After I dropped my locals, I tried to go to Fox.com to watch Family Guy (had gotten preempted by weather the night before) and when it asked me for my MVPD login, it said I wasn't subscribed and couldn't watch the content.

The reason for this is my FOX station is off the air. I was able to watch something on Hulu though. I have Hulu free through Sprint, so that worked.

I don't know how all this works or whether it is a long term solution or not. DISH is installing this for free and it does not extend my commitment. We shall see what it holds.

I do think locals and RSN regionals will destroy the TV model if the costs can't get under control.

I don't use Dish Anywhere so I'm afraid I can't help with this

Order the OTA Dual Tuner Adapter yourself from Products | AirTV. Scroll down to the accessories to find it.

Thanks again for this. Works like a champ.

Does anyone know if my guide would still populate if I drop the Dish locals?

What's interesting is that the guide populates the program information on all 4 PBS channels . The guide also displays program information on 2 of the 4 NBC channels. On all other stations the only program information that appears is that of the primary.
Does anyone know why this is the case?

So after all of this DISH didn't show up today as they were supposed to. They freely admit they screwed up.

I am pissed I wasted my time and I may be done. So tired of all of this. Sounding off right now, but Charlie Ergen runs a crap show.

Yeah but I would have to switch you to Directv.

So DISH guy came by today and all set up on the OTA antenna. All is good. All my locals plus a bunch of others....about 41 in total. Many are loser channels though a couple OTA shopping channels, some foreign language channels, and some other stuff. Guide data is loading for the networks, but I am not sure it will load for the METV and those sub channels...does it?

DISH guy confirmed to me I will, in fact, lose the ABC/NBC/Fox On Demand if I turn off locals. Well, I lost Fox local anyway, which is what precipitated this whole antenna stuff.

We'll see how it all works going forward. Looks good so far.

It depends on the individual main channel, I think. For instance, my local NBC has two subchannels, antenna tv and justice network. Antennatv has guide data even though dish doesn't carry it, justice does not. Fox has metv and h&I. Metv has data, h&I does not. None of my CBS subchannels have data, and all but one of my PBS channels have data.
