Those features do require the phone line. Anyone who's smart enough to know to connect their receiver to their broadband connection also knows that this replaces the phone line. Why confuse those who don't know this ?

If they said DishONLINE requires the phone connection, that would be really bad.

Lack of caller ID on broadband is a definite plus.

Tell that to people who don't have caller-id service in the first place. Is the caller-id function enabled by default on Dish boxes ? I don't think it is, but it could be.

I didn't say it replaces it 100%. For many, the phone connection, or lack of, only means $4.95/mo add'l to them and they're glad to have the broadband option.
