Hi guys!

I'm new here, so this is a 'noobie' question. I just purchased a 2005 motorhome that has a DirectTV satellite dish already mounted on the roof. I want to subscribe to DishTV to take advantage of their monthly plan. Can I just buy a DishtTV receiver and use the DirectTV dish?

Almost always the answer is no, the two systems are not compatible.

In very rare situations there might be a way to make things work depending on the exact type of dish on the roof and the model of Dish receiver you plan to use.

You can contact a local retailer to install a DISH on your RV. Here is a link you can use to locate a retailer in your area http://www.dish.com/find-retailer/

Joe,
Check and see the exact make and model of the dish ....
Are all the other parts for it inside (if there are any, some do, some dont).
Many of the RV dishes can be use for D*, Dish and Bell, depending on what set up it is on ...

As already mentioned, what exactly do you have on the roof? Inside the coach? Some stuff can be cross compatible.

Some dome dishes can be switched from Direct TV to DISH by changing dip switches on the unit. Until the OP tells us what dish he has, there's no way to determine his options.

I just went through this. I bought a 2005 motorhome that had a MotoSat dish that would cost $850 to update. If your antenna was installed when the coach was new like mine was, so much has changed with sat TV technology, but these guys are the guys to ask. Good luck!
