Dish Network will change the way they refer to receivers starting Feb 1st

I wonder how many people will wake up on 2/1 to find that their 811 doesn't get any HD programming anymore? For some reason I just feel that this whole thing isn't going to go as smoothly as they have it planned.

I can see myself talking to a CSR explaining that my 811 should STILL be receiving the HD programming that I'm paying for. In addition when my HD locals go live on MPEG-4, I'm waiting to see them disable my OTA on the 811. But hopefully I'll be proved wrong.

This drives me crazy. Nobody has said that you'll wake up on 2/1 with your 811 not receiving the same HD programming it was on 1/31.

Dish IS talking about "NO NEW ACTIVATIONS" of MPEG2 receivers for HD after 2/1. If that's true, any residule value people have in their current 6000s, 811s, 921s & 942s will basically go out the window in terms of selling the units.

This is a business decision by Dish to insure new customers or existing customers moving up to HD MUST buy a new MPEG4 receiver from Dish. It's called rob Peter to pay Paul with us being Peter and Dish being Paul.

Not sure this sort of thing is new for Dish but probably quicker than waiting for existing receivers to start "acting up" after a software "upgrade". And no, I can't prove that but I don't think I'm the only suspicious one.

I know that I'll still get the same HD programming. I was merely pointing out that "glitches" do happen with stuff like this, and I'd hate to be the one having to talk with a CSR about maintaining my HD package!

Stargazer stated that the thought the 50x boxes would be swapped out first. I agree as that would allow E* to start charging DVR fee's to all us that do not pay them now.

And once they start getting swapped out and are all swapped out the 50X receivers will no longer be able to be activated. Doorstops. They will probably want them back.
