After heading over to the DirectTV forum and finding that the DirectTV DVR is compatible with UPnP and can thus stream Netflix, YouTube, and whatever other media is supported by the UPnP software running on a PC, I'd love to know whether Dish Network will ever have anything that is UPnP compatible...

I havent heard VIP922 and UPnP in the same sentence before so I'm assuming that its not going to have it but is there perhaps some future Sling device that will have UPnP that works with DishNetwork DVRs ?

More likely DLNA than UPnP, though both standards are a real mess. For legal reasons streaming to a PC over a truly open protocol without encryption is highly unlikely; it's all about the DRM. With the 922 to be Sling-loaded, you can watch your recordings from your laptop, almost anywhere in the world, nevermind your house. Dish has every intention to be on every set top box and web browser they can, but in a very controlled way.
