From Dish's 10Q:
Subscription television services revenue totaled $1.36 billion for the three months ended September 30, 2003, an increase of $242.9 million or 21.7% compared to the same period in 2002. This increase was attributable to continued DISH Network subscriber growth and an increase in monthly average revenue per subscriber, discussed below. DISH Network added approximately 285,000 net new subscribers for the three months ended September 30, 2003 compared to approximately 320,000 net new subscribers added during the same period in 2002. As of September 30, 2003, we had approximately 9.085 million DISH Network subscribers compared to approximately 7.78 million at September 30, 2002, an increase of approximately 16.8%. ?Subscription television services revenue? will continue to increase to the extent we are successful in increasing the number of DISH Network subscribers and maintaining or increasing revenue per subscriber. Subscriber additions during the three months ended September 30, 2003 were negatively impacted by, among other things, delays in delivery of several newly developed products. Significant deployment of these products is expected late in the fourth quarter of 2003 and should be completed during the first quarter of 2004.
Paraphrased:
earnings 0.07/share, compare to the 0.16 consensus estimate;
1.45 billion of revenue, compare to 1.5 billion consensus;
Less new subscribers than the same period last year with high acquisition subsidize for new subscribers
Looks like we will not see the new products 811, 921 SuperDish for HD at the earliest until late 4th Quarter - and not see wide scale avaliablity until first quarter of 2004.
