Dish Network Eastern Arc Press Release

110, 119, 129

I'd call it "full arc" not "western arc".:)

Based no what DISH is saying, they will expand such MPEG4-only deal to the whole nation. To do that I don't think they can rely on 110, 119 and 129 as there is no room to plug in a full MPEG4 service. They can save some BW on 110/116/129 but only spot beams, which will be no help.

Scott, do you have any idea what a "western arc" will be like in terms of orbital slots?

So existing customer can upgrade as long as you pay for install/new dish?

If you are willing to shop online at a dish retailer like dishstore.net or dishdepot.com , and you are willing to install you own dish. THe dishes always come with installation instructions so you can do it your self. You can even get meters, compasses, etc to do your own install. I don't think that DISH will do any installs for people on the eastern arc right now unless you are a new sub only. For side sat dish installs , yes you can pay to have these scheduled to be installed for the total price of an install.

As to dish receivers, you can trade in old receivers that you OWN towards credit on the new receiver through dishdepot.com. I have done these for years and there is NO TAX on any purchase if you live outside of the state of Florida. You can also sell them on ebay and use the money towards a purchase of a new receiver through the online retailer too.

Say jacmyoung, the DISH retailer instructions for the eastern arc that Scott posted in another thread, show the diagrams and the western arc is 110/119/129 and they said it would now be referred to as the western arc from now on, since the eastern arc is up and running at 61.5 /72.7 /77.

Ok then but it is still meaningless to me if it is just the old service. If MPEG4-only service is the deal, then give it to us on the west coast in a similar true "western arc" fashion.

Simply calling 110/119/129 western arc changes nothing as far as people under such "western arc" is concerned.

Maybe so, but that's what Dish is calling it right now.

Just like I said 110, 119, 129. Just because it's called Western Arc doesn't have anything to do with MPEG4. That's just the name Dish has given the traditional slots.

Are we sure they are calling it ANYTHING? Or are we just in the habit of making up names and using them until people think it's "official"?

It doesn't say "Eastern Arc" anywhere in that press release.

EDIT...or in the installation guide.

EDIT AGAIN...OK, so there is this...

...but where is the official "Western Arc" terminology coming from?

Ok I am totally confused. I called Dish about changing over to Eastern Arc to have all MPEG4 service for better quality. I spoke to a technical service rep and be told me that all of the 622's and 211's are receiving SD and HD in MPEG4. By reading this I thought you had to to have the Eastern Arc dish to get all in MPEG4 plus the new card? Which is correct? Thanks.

You can't get the eastern arc service yet, unless you have the new smart cards or you are a new sub in the 21 eastern arc dmas launched on 8/20 and you pick turbo hd. Unless you fit that category, you are getting the hd channels mostly in mpeg 4 and the sd channels in mpeg 2 like the rest of the country.

Is 72.7 activated per dma? The boss swears it is. I installed a 1000.4(good signal on 61.5 & 72.7) for these people at their camper so they can take receiver back and forth from house, nlos at camper for western arc period. This is also a dma not in list. The receiver is new. I have yet to see any receivers with the "A" on label, again boss says our supplier dow assures him all the new vip's we are getting have new smart card. At the camper on the 1000.4 most of the 100's, 200's, and some of the 300's on hd only work flawlessly. The standard mpeg 4 channels show only information bar with a black screen but everything shows up in guide.
I am getting conflicting information and would like to verify. The dma the boss is in is on the list and they have been installing 1000.4's and have no trouble with same equipment we get. Is he right? What I'm reading on here basically says if you live in a dma NOT on the list and have a new smart card then the EA will work for you, except for local channels. What I'm seeing on my end goes along with what the boss says, can anyone clarify?
