Dish Network Big 10 Notice

I would be *VERY* happy if Charlie created *The Sports Package* that included all the damn sports channels.. all the espns, btn, nfl network, blah blah blah.. and charged people and arm and a leg for it and kept it off my bill..

let him charge 50 bux a month for that and drop everyone else's bill at least 30-40 bux.. then you can get all your new channels at the premium you're willing to pay without effecting the premium I don't want to pay.. :)

That will never happen as long as the Corporate Anthropomorphic Rodent is around.

If Dish gives in to B10 and puts it in AT100 it would be a pretty big slap in the face to YES. The reason Dish has not carried YES is that they do not want to put it in AT100 but AT200 (AT100 does not come with RSNs).

Seeing new channels in the uplink report in the RSN range makes one wonder if they are getting close to a deal. Perhaps B10 will settle for a few million fewer subs in AT200 and have carriage vs no carriage for AT100.

I'm willing to pay for BTN, ESPN, and NFLN, so you don't have to, as long as you're willing to pay for Lifetime, We, and Oxygen, so I don't have to! :eureka
:up
Let me add Weather Channel (so many local weather channels now are available), MTV & co (put them in Music tier, I don't want to pay for it)

E* has been running this ad in the Wisconsin/Illinois area for a couple of weeks now.

The newspaper and radio ads go so far as to entice people into subbing to E* in order to get B10 sports.

I imagine it will be effective ... right up to when some E* sub who believed it finds out that some of the Badger football games, and about half of the basketball games, won't be carried on E*, but are on D*.

and they will be pissed off!!!

I could see your point if there was a big price difference between D* and E* but there isn't, in some cases D* can actually be cheaper then E*. With all the battles that E* has had with content providers, dropping or not adding channels due to the costs, shouldn't there be a bigger price difference between the two providers?
Its not the price ..E* has a bigger PROFIT margin

Ah, so Charlie's not out there trying to save $'s for his customers, just increase the profit for his shareholders, which he's the major stock holder. Now I gotcha, Charlie's just as greedy as the rest of them out there.

I have heard the same type of commercials on the radio from Comcast. To me it's kind of like saying, "We aren't going to carry Showtime, but there are lots of movies being shown on HBO!" Would that really fool anyone?

YEP otherwise it would be dishnetwork.org instead of disnetwork.com

:D thats beautiful !!!!

Exactly, and advertised products are ala carte. You don't have to purchase every single item that advertises during MNF just to buy a a sixpack of bud light. I'm generally a CHEAPO shopper who buys a lot of instore brands.

Your argument would be stronger if you told me you received all your programming OTA. The fact that you're paying anything at all tells me that you're willing to pay for what you don't want in order to get what you do want.

We're all in the same boat. I want BTN; you don't. You want the ManHaterChannel; I don't.

To support your stance, you should argue for a la carte programming across the board (which you'll never get) instead of denouncing a large number of viewers who clearly want BTN.

Here's a newsflash for ya'.... Companies are in business *not* to provide a product to consumers or offer a service. They're in business to make $$$. Sure, they need those pains in the a** things called customers to do so, of course, but if they could make money without us, rest assured, they would !

If you're foolish enough to think Echostar's goals are any different than other big business, especially publically owned ones, you need to wake up.

I know that, it's just that whenever this type of thing pops up folks keep praising Charlie for battling the evil content providers by not caving into their demands and keeping our rates low. But when you look at all the past fights E*'s had with content providers and all the high priced programming that E*'s dropped or turned down E*'s rates should be lower across the board then D*'s but they aren't. Just trying to find out where all these programming cost savings are going since when you look at package pricing they're fairly close to each other.

I think the savings allow Dish to offer the AT 100 package along with guaranteed multi-year price freezes at that level. It's Dish's big marketing hook and I know a lot of people who chose Dish over D* because of the lower initial programming cost. I don't think the rest of us upper tier subscribers see much benefit from the hard ball tactics, but they really don't bother me, and sometimes they are fun to watch. ;)

Hey guys...just FYI and this only a rumor from the other satellite forum. Apparently a new test channel has been added unexpectedly to the Dish lineup....and someone over there swears its the BTN. Also, an anonymous guy posted on my Purdue message board that Dish and BTN have a deal in the works. Its interesting that the posts are from two different people at that same time on two different message boards.

Can any of you guys check and confirm?

439 TEMP ADDED TO Tp 19 on EchoStar 8 at 110w MPEG2 SD

also in the uplink today, 4 other channels right above 439, ALL marked temp, ALL on the same satellite,

I'm not saying that we will see something tonight, but I am feeling much better this afternoon, that we may have BTN by the weekend.

Just feels too good to be true, you know what i mean?
I want BTN as much as anyone out there, but i wont get excited until i actually see the BTN on my TV.
Just becasue they are testing temp channels doesnt mean much. they could be doing exactly that "testing" the channels for god knows what. i just think charlie wont budge from his stance and is willing to wait it out. he knows customers are in a bind between contracts, wanting the most/best HD channels, and the BTN situation.
been said before, but Charlie's a poker player, and to him this is probably just a small hand in the main event.

Awesome news...especially since there are 5 Big Ten games on at the same time this Saturday!!!
