DISH Becomes First Distributor to Launch Univision's Telenovela, Sports and News Networks; Delivers Broad Distribution of Univision Deportes; and Provides Exclusive Access of Univision Deportes Dos; Partnership Adds More Than 3,500 Titles to Blockbuster @Home Including Exclusive VOD Library Content

LAS VEGAS, NV -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 01/09/12 -- (NASDAQ: DISH) -- DISH Network L.L.C., the nation's third largest pay-TV provider, and Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, have signed a multi-year, multi-platform agreement that will bring the most comprehensive selection of Spanish-language networks and content to DISH Latino subscribers. At the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, DISH announced that in the first half of this year it will launch Univision's new networks -- Univision Deportes, Univision tlnovelas, Univision Noticias -- and offer exclusive access to Univision Deportes Dos. DISH will provide broad distribution of Univision Deportes, and Univision will provide DISH with thousands of hours of novelas and Spanish-language movies for inclusion in DISH's Blockbuster @Home package. In addition, the agreement includes distribution of Univision's networks: the Univision Network, TeleFutura, Galavision and a suite of six TV channel offerings -- De Película, De Película Clásico, Bandamax, Ritmoson, Telehit and Clásico TV.
"We are pleased to have reached an innovative deal with Univision for their newest channels and their primetime novelas on demand," said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming, DISH. "DISH is the leading provider of Latino content in the United States. This deal for exclusive linear and VOD content from Univision provides our customers with the broadest selection of top quality Spanish-language content."
This unprecedented offering is Univision's first authentication partnership with a pay-TV provider, giving DISH customers access to Univision's portfolio of current primetime and library content.
"This agreement with DISH Network, a long-term leader with US Hispanics and long time Univision partner, speaks to their vision and understanding that growth in Hispanic audiences on Univision's platforms will result in subscriber growth," said Tonia O'Connor, president of Univision Distribution Sales and Marketing. "DISH is a great innovator. The distribution of these new Univision networks, and the thousands of hours of Spanish-language content that can be streamed in and out of home for the first time ever behind a pay-wall, demonstrates DISH's commitment to deliver Hispanic subscribers the most robust content offering across multiple screens."
The new networks include the following:
Univision Deportes: The US home for Hispanic sports fans, Univision Deportes will provide more than double the amount of Mexican Primera Division matches than any other network in the country, with exclusive rights to the home games for 12 of the 18 teams within the Mexican Primera Division, three exclusive Mexican Primera Division soccer matches live every week, plus away games for the rest of the league's teams. Univision Deportes will deliver live sports and up-to-the-minute news coverage that matters most to US Hispanic sports fans. The network will also include live coverage of FIFA events from 2012-2014 and programming from Televisa Deportes network. DISH subscribers will also receive exclusive access to specific Mexican Primera Division games that will not be seen anywhere else.
Univision Deportes Dos: Univision Deportes Dos, exclusively available on DISH in 2012, will complement the Univision Deportes network. The new network will air matches from Univision Deportes and with programming from Mexico's Televisa Deportes network.

Dish To Launch Trio of New Univision Networks - 2012-01-09 20:35:58 | Multichannel News

Dish To Launch Trio of New Univision NetworksSports, News, Novela Services To Bow In First Half as Part of Broad Distribution Pact

by Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 1/9/2012 3:35:58 PM

Univision has signed its first affiliate deal for its trio of telenovela, sports and news channels, as part of far-reaching distribution pact with Dish Network.

The deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, calls for Dish to launch Univision Deportes, Univision tlnovelas and Univision Noticias. The No. 2 DBS provider will also offer exclusive access to Deportes Dos, a second sports network.

The rollouts will occur during the first half of the year. Sources familiar with the negotiations indicate that Univision Deportes will be positioned on Dish's AT200 package, while Univision tlnovelas and Univision Deportes will reside on Dish Clasico.

The agreement marks Univision's first carriage pact for the new networks. The U.S. Spanish-language media leader began talking up the services around its upfront presentation to advertisers last May.

In addition to providing carriage of the new services, the distributor will receive thousands of hours of novellas and Spanish-language movies that will become part of Dish's Blockbuster @Home package.

The agreement also includes distribution of broadcast networks Univision and TeleFutura and their cable cousin Galavisión, plus a suite of six TV channel offerings: De Película, De Película Clásico, Bandamax, Ritmoson, Telehit and Clásico TV.

"We are pleased to have reached an innovative deal with Univision for their newest channels and their primetime novelas on demand," said Dish senior vice president of programming Dave Shull. "Dish is the leading provider of Latino content in the United States. This deal for exclusive linear and VOD content from Univision provides our customers with the broadest selection of top quality Spanish-language content."

Noted Tonia O'Connor, president of Univision Distribution Sales and Marketing: "This agreement with Dish Network, a long-term leader with US Hispanics and long time Univision partner, speaks to their vision and understanding that growth in Hispanic audiences on Univision's platforms will result in subscriber growth. Dish is a great innovator. The distribution of these new Univision networks, and the thousands of hours of Spanish-language content that can be streamed in and out of home for the first time ever behind a pay-wall, demonstrates Dish's commitment to deliver Hispanic subscribers the most robust content offering across multiple screens."

The following are descriptions of the new Univision entries:

Univision Deportes: The home for sports fans will provide more than double the amount of Mexican Primera Division matches than any other network in the U.S., with exclusive rights to the home games for 12 of the 18 teams within the Mexican Primera Division, three exclusive Mexican Primera Division soccer matches live every week, plus away games for the rest of the league's teams.

Univision Deportes Dos: A complement to Univision Deportes, this service will be exclusively available on Dish this year. The new network will air matches from Univision Deportes and programming from Mexico's Televisa Deportes network.

Univision tlnovelas: Home to the best telenovelas from Televisa, the novela network will present a mix of the top recent and past favorite novelas some of which have never been seen in the States.

Univision Noticias: The network will present the latest and most relevant news from Mexico, Latin America and around the world. Coverage will extend to the top of the news, as well as current affairs and the entertainment realm.

I don't know a lick of Spanish, but Univision HD soccer video quality is beyond awesome. I think they have the best PQ of anyone that shows soccer.

4 or 6 New Channels?

While the article promotes the fact that four new channels will be added (Univision Deportes, Univision Deportes Dos, Univision tlnovelas and Univision Noticias) It also says that: "The agreement also includes distribution of broadcast networks Univision and TeleFutura and their cable cousin Galavisión, plus a suite of six TV channel offerings: De Película, De Película Clásico, Bandamax, Ritmoson, Telehit and Clásico TV." Of those, Dish currently offers De Película, De Película Clásico, Bandamax, and Telehit. However Ritmoson and Clásico TV are currently not being offered. I'm assuming that means they will be added as well.

Don't worry, once it gets COMPRESSED [word filtered removed] down by Dish, it will no longer be qualified as HD.
Perhaps, but the quality on Univision HD now on Dish Network was what I was referring to. I believe it was worlds better than FSC's MLS coverage, the only apples to apples comparison I think. I forget if FSC and ESPN2 actually receive 720p or 1080i signals from England for the EPL, instead of the 576i or whatever the quality programming was/is in England.

I would rather have Superstations in HD ...
Clearly this is aimed at the Spanish speaking crowd, not the Superstation crowd. I'm presuming that the Spanish viewership may be a bit higher than those who want to watch WSBK from Seattle.

The dish CSE lady said they figure the market is 53 million viewers.

And I would guess that all those channels will be blocked by the local Univision in Puerto Rico. Just like the regular Univision, Galavision and Telefutura.
