dish movie pack now only 10 channels ... ?

With the Showtime pack at the same price I'm not seeing the value in the Movie Pack anymore, especially considering how seldom the content changes. I switched to Showtime.

That is definitely a relatively new change. If you look at the channel lineups it still has 15 channels listed for the Dish Movie Pack. DISH Channels and Programming | MyDISH | DISH Customer Support No IndiePlex, MoviePlex, Retroplex, Starz Encore Suspense, and Startz Kids and Family. All 5 of those are owned by Starz/Lionsgate. As I mentioned in a previous thread, there is no more advertising for Starz on the premium movie page and it is looking an awful lot like how HBO/Cinemax were removed. I have a feeling a dispute is brewing and Dish is removing all reference to those channels ahead of time in case a dispute does come up and they can't be accused of false advertising. (this is just my guess)

If this keeps going and I need to sub separately to another streaming pack, is is worth keeping Dish, except maybe for some small core programming and locals?

It's becoming more and more ridiculous by the week. I find I'm using Dish less and less and using OTA, FTA and streaming more and more. I still love my Wally and my EHD service, but if they keep jacking up the Welcome Pack price, I'm done.

Dish has to come to the realization that having the programming is more important than the price. Let the subscriber decide if they want to pay the money for the channel(s) if they want them. Taking them away from all viewers just ticks off people. We pay $$$ to get the programming we want, just to have it taken away. Besides that, even though we continue to lose channels, the rate hikes continue. If we lose the Starz Encore pack, I will start to downsize with Dish and spend the extra money directly to the programmer for their streaming service, as I have done with HBO.

That's basically the crux of the HBO dispute, though, that's more on AT&T than Dish. Rather than let Dish continue to pay HBO based on the number of actual HBO subscribers, reports are that AT&T wants Dish to guarantee (and thus pay based on) a certain number of subscribers. In that scenario, Dish would basically be left spreading the cost of HBO across all subscribers, rather than just those deciding to pay the money for the HBO package. Basically, Dish is fighting to continue to do just what you are suggesting they should do.

You wonder if the same thing is brewing with Starz. I believe Dish has already suggested HBO Now as an alternative so they don't miss their shows. Starz online is $5 for the first 3 months then $8.99 after that - cheaper than what Dish was charging for Starz. So you just have to wonder if that is the direction the premiums will be going in the future - online only.

We have had a good deal with Starz on Dish as if we even get one of their channels like in the movie pack, then the Starz app if free. I did see that for $8.99 a month, the Starz app on Roku/Fire stick does have the Retro, Inde, and Movie Plex channels.

Been thinking about dropping the movie pack, since I added Netflix and already have Prime Video. Dish is just making the decision for me, by cutting out 5 channels.

I am wondering what the future will be for Dish, Direct, cable. As there are so many disputes. I remember back 10 years ago, there were disputes but not as many. It looks like as a viewer, we may be on our own as far a programming goes in the distant future, or do without a lot of channels. With locals at $12 a month, how long will it be that Dish, Direct, cable will no longer carry locals? What is the limit? Will the viewer pay $15, $20, or even $25 a month to get their Networks? As long as there is OTA it is not an issue. But even then there was some talk 40 years ago. that even the OTA networks would start charging for their news, net shows, etc. CBS is already starting that with their streaming service. $5.95 a month to get the network shows and past episodes. So far their news channel is free. But with so many good streaming services like Prime, Hulu, etc, the competition will be fierce. Disney is starting their streaming service in late 2019. Because of that, most Disney movies will no longer be available on other channels. If you want Disney, you have to get it from Disney. Is this the future for everything? Time will tell.

I have the DISH Movie Pack and I'm still getting the 5 channels removed. Is this supposed to happen in the future or is it a glitch in their system ? I also have AT250 as base package if that helps.
