Dish Model 811 - P2.89 Software Update

289 took a long time to download, but I got 289 today as well. It looks like it's getting a wider distribution than 287 did initially. I don't know if that's good or bad.

I use the "ask me before downloading" option so that I can control if/when it gets installed.

Cheers,

I discovered that I had P289 when I went home for lunch today. I un-thinkingly re-activated the auto update permission some time back. Now I'm praying that this version isn't hosed like the last 4 have been. P289 replaces P284 on my 811.

I didn't have time to run checks on my issues with P284, but the new graphics are nice. I don't understand the TV Guide promo logo.

For people moving from 284 to 287, you might want to check this thread out. There is some recommendations as to what to do. 284 to 287 is a biggie in terms of what got updated.

Nothing here, why? Set on auto what gives?

This is a phased released. everyone will not get it on at first. You might not be in the first group oldtimer and you might have to wait. Full roll out can take up to 2 weeks if all goes well.

Thanks, I've never had much luck with the lottery either. :D

Got my 289. So far, the only difference that I see. Is when scanning for local digital channel you can cancel the scan. Before once you started, you were stuck until the scan finished.

Got the download today. Went from 2.84 directly to 2.89.

TV Guide logo is now on the guide screen. I'd guess that TV Guide paid a rights fee to have their logo on there. Everyone else has a TV Guide channel so no big deal there.

The improved graphics on the menu screen is nice especially on the Menu screens. The install screen from the system info is very easy to navigate and read. You now have visual references to the status of your 811, from the signal strength to even the phone line being hooked up or not.

Well I tried the OTA digital and analog channel switching routine that usually gave me a BSOD w/ P284 and P289 worked like a champ. It may fail the next time, but so far, it appears at least this BSOD scenario has been addressed.

"Washed-out" color via DVI connection wasn't addressed. Looks the same.

Overall, P289 appears very stable. The only new negative is that it seems slower in locking a channel when I change channels. Particularly noticeable when going to an OTA DTV channel, regardless of that channel's signal strength.

lost 110 satellite after 2.89 update

Just after the 2.89 update (from 2.87) came through on my 811 (Superdish at 110/119/121), I completely lost the 110 satellite. A checkswitch finds the appropriate LNB and lists it as "Conn", but no satellite is detected on it. The signal strengths on 119 and 121 are very high and all related channels are working, but satellite 110 shows 0. Occasionally, 110 picks up a signal from the 119 satellite (e.g., on transponder 19). I cannot see any thing obviously wrong with the dish alignment, and it was working perfectly the day before 2.89 came through. Has anyone else seen this problem? It could be just a coincidence of course, and the dish alignment might have changed or the LNB has failed.

I checked last night and I finally got updated from 2.82. I like the look of the new menus and so far it seems stable. The only issue I had was the OTA lockup with 2.82 and one time I lost audio.

I did have one quirk last night but it may have been related to a storm passing through, I was tuning in Fox digital and the screen stayed black for about 5 seconds then a message box popped up telling me the OTA antenna connection was lost; channel up or down, so I did and when I went right back to Fox, it tuned in. The wind was howling quite hard at that moment, so maybe my antenna was bouncing around.
