since dish is going to meg-4, is the 622 and 722 receiver be obsolete, anyone have an answer to this, would hate to dish out bucks for receiver that might
not work in the near future.

If you only want sd programing with an OTA antenna for HD local, this receiver should be alright although the guide takes a long time to download.
so this receiver have input for over air antenna to get local channels?
Possibly, possibly not. The 6000 had a user-installable ATSC tuner port. You had to buy it separately and install it yourself in the early days. But later, I think after Dish came out with the 811 they started sending out refurbed 6000's with the ATSC tuners installed, IIRC. I may be completely wrong about that however. What you need to do is look on the back of the unit and on the left hand side you should see the tuner. If it has no tuner, there will be a small metal plate covering a hole where the tuner would go.
