DISH loses 4 more HD channels - 3 Return

That was the one person I mentioned. Nobody said it sucked less, except for Jodean, who was proven to be lying.

Again, taking the fact that one guy whom does not own an HR24 and lied that he was an installer, where did you here that they sucked less?

You cannot possibly draw that conclusion from this one poster. If so, you must not have read all of the post in that thread

I said it was my impression. Faster yes. Fastest no. I was not paying attention to Jodean. Best statement was playing field was somewhat leveled.

I can't point it out as I didn't say it. You told me recently that they have gotten much better. Thing is to be able to record 4 things at once I would still need to have 2 HD DVR's which when I have looked mean the 1st is free and the 2nd cost me a L of a lot of $$. Right now I'm only vaguely interested since I'm under my 2nd contrast for 14 more months. It would also be very hard for me to want to leave for a good while I'm and Absolute customer. It's still the best deal in HD that anyone has come up with.
Why would you need to record 4 things at one time?

If you do, why would you need 2 HD DVRs? If you are only using 1 HD DVR with Dish currently, that means your other TV is not getting HD since their Duo DVRs only send out an SD signal to the second TV. If you have 2 HD DVRs with Dish, then the lease fee on the second is much more than it will be with Direct.

If you only need to record 2 things at once you can get an HD DVR and an HD receiver for free with Direct when you sign up. Add $3/month for MRV, $5/month for your second receiver fee, and $7/month for DVR service, and you will be able to watch anything you record from your DVR in HD on both TVs

That is nowhere near, "sucks less". It is a damn good DVR, one of the best on the market. Somethings are better than the 922 and somethings are worse

Evidence? DirecTV just went through a rather public battle regarding Versus (and DISH had that battle four years ago when it was OLN). Just because DirecTV doesn't cut-off channels as often as Dish Network does not translate that DirecTV "just rolls over".

The issue here is that a poster said that DirecTV "just rolls over", and I've simply asked for "evidence", and even supported a fact to back up my position. Just because, "Versus is nowhere near the same level as the Disney owned stations," does not invalidate my point. It more or less dodges the issue.

Disney said that Dish Network did not have the right to carry the four disputed networks without compensation. The reason they are no longer on is because Dish Network still does not want to pay for them.

It seems to me that Dish Network has backed itself into a corner, again. Their very first press release over the matter is that in order to have "HD for Life", they negotiate contracts to "keep prices low". Somehow Dish Network is going to negotiate these back into "HD for Life" because Disney will relent? I truly doubt it.

I'm going to re-read parts of the lawsuit. I'm wondering if ESPN and ESPN2 could end up being affected. Imagine if Dish Network hasn't been paying for those channels, and Disney simply decides to do what most companies do to delinquent customers.

OK, so basically, for years Charlie was charging us for the HD, even though he wasn't paying the providers, arguing that it was the same content.

Now he says he will give it to us for free IF we sign a 2 year commitment, or pay $99 for the "free" hd. (Yes, I realize the grandfathered are only paying $10 for the extra HD Platinum, or whatever they are calling it these days.)

I'll say this for Charlie, he has cojones grande.

I could care less about the Disney brand channels, but the ESPNews one hurt as I watch it just about every day. I've switched to ESPN and ESPN2 for now, but I'm wondering if they will pull those feeds as well once the World Cup is over, figuring that they can squeeze E* by then.

BTW, has ANY company EVER won a full victory over E*. It seems like they all eventually meet in the middle anyway.

It doesn't stop amazing me how Charlie is supposed to please every single last wish and desire of every single subscriber or in the same breath, be given complete control and understanding by those not affected by any particular decisions.

'We have to have ESPNEWS HD, I watch it all the time!'

'Good riddance, now only if we could get rid of all the ESPN's, I'd save a bundle because I don't even watch it.'

While I expect DishNetwork to try and cater to my demands and desires, I don't expect them to bend and sway exclusively to my own demands.

Even their big ratings are not close to the ratings of the championship games of our 3 major sports.

NFL gets about 100 million viewers
Last year's World Series drew over 22 million on some games
This year's NBA championship on ABC drew over 18 million for game 7

The highest rated game on ESPN/ABC drew 13 million with an average per game even lower than that. This huge ratings event is still half of that of baseball

I apologize if this has been responded to already, but I'm on my phone and don't want to come back to this after reading the rest of the thread...

There are 60+ games in the world cup tournament. You're comparing the ratings of the first round to the world series, super bowl, and NBA finals game 7? What were the ratings for the earlier rounds of the major US sports playoffs? Get back to me when we get to the knock out games and the final.

And don't forget these games are being played in the mornings and early afternoons rather than prime time. It's hard to watch these games if you're at work.

Dish Network Drops 4 Disney HD Channels
TVPredictions.com
Washington, D.C. (June 22, 2010) -- Dish Network has dumped four Disney-owned HD channels from its lineup after a programming fee fight with the network.

The four channels are: Disney Channel HD, Disney XD HD, ABC Family HD and ESPNews HD.

Dish has kept the standard-def editions of those channels on the air as well as other Disney-owned channels such as ESPN. However, the satellite operator is charging Disney with asking for a "significant" increase in carriage fees.

The satcaster said negotiations with Disney are continuing, however.

Disney issued a statement today that it hopes the two sides will reach an agreement "so that we can make these HD networks available to (Dish) customers."

As I noted in a commentary posted earlier this month, this could be the year where millions of viewers lose their favorite channels.

With TV providers looking to cut spending in a tight economy, most observers assume we will see more fee disputes in the coming months that could force more channels off the air. Broadcast and cable networks are asking TV operators for more money to carry their channels and the operators are saying no.

Hopefully, the Dish-Disney fight will be short-lived. But with the fee fights escalating, there have been calls in Congress and elsewhere (including here) for the FCC to adopt new rules that would force companies to accept baseball-style arbitration in these disputes. In that scenario, the companies would be forced to keep the channel on the air until the matter is resolved in arbitration.

The FCC should act immediately.

That's fair. We will wait and see what the final rounds will get. If the US is in, the ratings will be high. If the US is out, I would not be surprised if the ratings are actually lower than that of the first round

This shows that you really don't understand the magnitude of Football (soccer) and its viewership.

I don't disagree with his statement..... If the US gets knocked out, I don't see US fans showing up to watch Germany, Argentina, or Brazil en masse outside of the hardcore faithful.....

We will have to wait and see.

Can you tell me why anyone would watch two foreign countries play in a sport in which they have no interest in to begin with? Face it, Soccer is not that big here in the US.

It is still the most popular sport in the world. I love watching the World Cup.
True, but the ratings on ABC/ESPN have nothing to do with world popularity, only US popularity. For the most part, US citizens to not take interest in soccer.

If Dish loses ESPN HD (which they won't), the ratings for soccer on ESPN are not going to change much at all. First, Dish only has a smaller percentage of all cable/DBS subs. Second, most subs to not subscribe to HD anyway.

This is how I would look at it, do I want to pay $10 less for free HD, if it means four less Disney HD channels, or do I rather pay $10 more to keep the four HD channels. The four HD channels apparently have little impact. If the ESPNHDs were involved, Charlie would not have allowed them to be turned off.

Similarly the complaints about DISH dropping some sports HD channels or not carrying full time RSN HDs miss the point. If you are a big sports person, you should have been with DirecTV already. Even Charlie had said so from time to time. I don’t understand why those sports fans still complain.

What I do not understand is DISH makes it very costly if you need more than one DVR. I’d like to think everyone wants to DVR, sports fan or not, why have a policy that pushes people who needs multiple DVRs over to DirecTV?

I often record 4 things at 1 time.

2 OTA & 2 sat. Sometime it is all 4 of the big 4, sometime it's local PBS & or CW neither of these are carried over sat here. I use single mode on my 722k and output component to 1 TV & HDMI to the other. It will take 2 DVR's to do this w/ D*. The SD output only goes to my DVD recorder(not the coax). Your $15 is only $6 for me w/ my setup.
