DISH loses 4 more HD channels - 3 Return

haha, so called HD leader losing channels LOL. Bad Business

Would it have been better if they agreed to the increase, and then passed on the price increase to you the customer, so that they can maintain their HD leader status?

I doubt the ratings would have suffered that much.
Actually in talking with others over the past few minutes it appears the reason why ESPN HD and ESPN2 HD were not pulled from DISH was because many bars, resturants and commercial establishments get their ESPN HD feeds from DISH. To pull the feeds could have meant a lot of lost business for those establishments.

Losing channels sucks but I wouldn't say it's bad business. Dish is trying to keep their prices low.(I think that's pretty good business) Hopefully they reach an agreement and put the channels back up and keep their same great prices. I would have to agree that Disney coporation is a little high priced when it comes to their family of channels. Don't you think customers should be greatful that Dish is fighting to keep prices affordable?
Where is the "Thank you" button when you need one? Scherrman, thank you for your thoughful response!!:up

Scott, please add the "Thanks" or "Thank you" button to this site. We need it for times like this!!! :)

I'm glad to see that the kindred spirits are in this thread. Sympathy and appreciation for Dish are conspicuously absent from the thread in the uplink report center.

I dont see that dish is that much cheaper anymore. I think the cheap one is Charlie just using that as an excuse.; Glad to be gone

Yeah but glad their fighting for their customers! Heck these Networks keep raising their rates then all the TV Providers at some point will pass it along to their customers. Which means higher bills for everyone No Matter if you have Dish,Direct,Cable or whatever. At some point time the Networks need to lay off the Greed. Disney gotten way to Big and Greedy heck oh Walt would not put up with some of the things that they are doing now.

Even their big ratings are not close to the ratings of the championship games of our 3 major sports.

NFL gets about 100 million viewers
Last year's World Series drew over 22 million on some games
This year's NBA championship on ABC drew over 18 million for game 7

The highest rated game on ESPN/ABC drew 13 million with an average per game even lower than that. This huge ratings event is still half of that of baseball

True. I agree that the World Cup is not the same thing as those games you mentioned. However, all three of those events you mentioned were on network television while the majority of the World Cup thus far has been on pay TV (although the England v US game you reference was abc). The rating garnered by the World Cup will likely be some of the highest ESPN gets this year, certainly over the summer. The World Cup is a very big event for ESPN and ESPN 2, not so much for abc.

As for Dish fighting for the consumer, I'm sorry, but I just don't see that being the case. They are fighting for themselves, not the consumer. Further, aside from a few of the small packages, I just don't see Dish as any cheaper than the competition, especially when you start factoring in multiple receivers and DVRs. After the initial 2 years, DirecTV would charge me $78 for the Choice Xtra with two DVRs and whole-home DVR. Dish, in August wants to charge me $90 for America's Top 200 with one DVR and a second receiver. How is Dish cheaper?

Also... if die hard fans cant see it on ESPN in HD.... then can just change it to Univision HD... ( with money the dog dances... and in this case Dish and Disney are beeotchs)

If they are needing to fill the spaces, I seem to remember a suite of 10 or so channels that showed premium original HD. Perhaps parsing that offering down to the 4 best. What was that suite again? I think it rhymed with BOOM! and had some hella awesome horror movies on MonstersHD:yikes

Perhaps Dish and Voom can settle and bring us what we crave. I could careless about any of the Disney HD stations.

Yep What a surprise.

NOT

Dish Number 1 in channel drops

DIRECTV does not have to drop channels. They know Dish will drop them instead. DIRECTV always gets a better rate than Dish because they have more subs and write it in their contract for most favored nations status. In other words they let Dish do all the work and get the same price/better than Dish when Dish gets the negotiations done.

If Dish never fought the rates, I bet DIRECTV would be having contract disputes. It is a priviledge DIRECTV has by having greater market share.

ESPN is the crown jewel of cable TV ESPN 2 is its sister. ESPN News is just a little chip on the side of the crown as are U and classic. Removing ESPN would be cutting off your nose to spite your face. We will know if things are really serious when ESPNHD disappears.

As for Disney, they know that audience is not discerning when it comes to picture quality. As long as the shows still appear they are still golden.
