I'm going to try it on my Hopper 2k.
And I'll leave my Hopper WS alone for now.
My Joeys are linked to the HWS.
So does that mean they will still continue to receive addtional updates in the future?
Because at first Scott was saying no.

Receivers updated using this method seemingly aren't on the same "path" as receivers that are selected by Dish to be part of the test pool, it would appear. I've seen mention that the s/w being installed by this method is from October 2015 and that the official testers are using substantially different (updated) s/w.
That said, Scott did mention that receivers updated this way, or some of them based on some hardware configuration, may never get updated and will be stuck with this s/w version. He has since indicated that that is not the case (I thought).
Receivers with this s/w may still not get updated until the Carbon UI is officially released though.
Has anyone tried the button presses after getting the update to see if it triggers another update...maybe it is an incremental update where you have to have 201 before you can get 202. Just thinking outside the box.

Okay Tried it on my H2K, and Nothing happend.
It asked to download Now, or Later, Chose Now, But nothing came of it except a reboot.
It's current software is S614

Well here I go I've decided to try it its downloading now.Im going to get the hopper3 when its released so might as well check it out.Will update later....
After it reboots, don't touch anything and leave it on the standby screen. Within a minute, it should start downloading. Pressing anything on the standby screen will interrupt the process.
Yes. After you select download now do not press another button, take batteries out of the remote and throw out your window if you need to lol.
Dish's DVR software is *nix based (at one time and probably still is, Linux-based). This type of operating systems partitions the hard drive into sections, for example, /system, /user, and so on. We can presume that our recordings, settings/configurations, etc are stored in the /user section. When a s/w update is done and Dish wants a clean slate, they may run a command that formats just /system and then dumps the new software there. On reboot, or during the boot-up, it reads data from the user section and makes it look just like it did before it updated.
If you're thinking like Windows, 99% of the time when you format your hard drive, everything is gone. That's not the case here.
I was going to suggest something similar, though not quite as drastic: After you hit "Yes" or whatever the prompt is, put the remote down and walk away. Once it starts, there is ZERO user interaction.
I interrupted mine last night and it wasn't doing well lol. It was fine this morning, but yes be patient as that just prolongs it interrupting it.
Maybe the Hopper 2k doesn't get this software version.

I Completely Agree! What is available through this process is at best, I hope, a very early iteration and needs a lot of work. I regret succumbing to the temptation of updating. But once a Geek, always a Geek.
Thanks Scott for this avenue of discussion and not sweeping this under the carpet. This is exactly what I was looking for yesterday and found in one of your "mole-whacked" threads where I asked if it was safe. Should have stuck with my gut feeling of waiting. Oh well.
Correct, hopefully you guys get a few more builds based off your feedback, but no one is saying that WILL happen. But when the official release comes out you will get that and all the additional builds from there.
