This thread has a detailed explanation as to how the HomePlug works.
Really? My entire house is covered by GFI outlets. What am I supposed to do with that?Do not plug the adapter or satellite receiver into an outlet that is controlled by a wall switch or into GFI electrical outlets.
You will probably need to go with the Wireless connection using the Wireless NetGear adapter. It connects to the USB port on the receiver. #3 HereReally? My entire house is covered by GFI outlets. What am I supposed to do with that?
not to kill the USB Dongle ... but think just a little bit more before you go that route.. if the receiver is the only thing you need networking for ... then go for it.. its inexpensive ..etc.. however, if you have several networked devices in/around the tv and your dish receiver.. then you might instead buy a wireless bridge, and a small network switch (if your bridge doesn't have enough ports on it that is) and you can link all of your "dongle" needing devices together. You will probably need to go with the Wireless connection using the Wireless NetGear adapter. GFCI measures through a transformer / transformer circuit ... so the electric signal passes through a device that can impede the signal.. or just by being close to the signal path... the electronics in the GFCI outlet cause enough distortion to make the signalling fail .. (the first link is the cleanest and possibly will immediately help people realize .. ie. transformer core)I fail to see what inside a GFI receptacle would quash the powerline networking... Surge protectors, yes. But GFI?
