Yesterday I purchased the 811 HD receiver for what I was hoping would be NCAA basketball in Hi Def. Well, as you all probably know I guess I need a second stupid DISH to get this. Is there any way to point my existing DISH to the 61.5 frequency and get the HD feed for CBS?

Secondarily I'm having trouble figuring out how to watch the Hi Def channels I do have in a full screen mode instead of having the blank bars on the left and right of the screen (this may be called 4:3 mode, I think?)

If any of you would be so kind as to email me directly the answer or solution to these questions I would be really grateful. send to earney6@msn.com or earney6@msn.com.

thanks!

Connect the 811 to your HDTV with the DVI-D or Component cables. Set the 811 to output 720p or 1080i.

Your HDTV will then display HD when it is tuned to HD channels.

HD channels = 9420, 21, 22, 23, 24, etc.

If you have an antenna you can try the OTA digitals for possible HD viewing. Go to antennaweb.org to check your local area. Also, check the Local HDTV forums at AVSforums.

If you're getting 4x3 on 942x channels, you're most likely using s-video or composite cables.

Unplug the s-video (round connector) and the composite (red, white, yellow) cables.

Use the YPrPb (red, green, blue) cable set that came in the 811 box. There are two ports for YPrPb on the back of the 811. Use the one closest to the edge.

Set your TV to the video source that shows a signal.

to get your picture to fill the screen, hit the page up/page down button on your remote control. this will give you stretch modes for standard definition channels. your hd channels should already fill your screen (except espn hd). if your hd channels are not filling your screen check that the aspect ratio on the 811 is set to 16:9. I'm assuming you have a widescreen tv.

As for swinging your Dish500 over to 61.5 - not recommended, certainly not for a beginner.

Ah you can do it. First make a careful note of the elevation and skew settings as they exist now. Take a magic marker and mark across the pipe and the skew and elevation marks so you can return to them later. Reset your skew to 90 degrees. Do an onscreen check for 61.5 (putting in your zipcode) and note the elevation listed and compass heading. Reset your elevation to the new number. Rotate the dish to the approximate compass heading remebering you will be 5 degrees off because of the fact this is a dish 500. Swing your dish back and forth and peak as best you can rotating and finally tweaking the elevation settings. Then do the magic marker thing again so if you want to go back to 61.5 anytime soon (like next weekend) it should be easy. Watch and enjoy. Remember to do a check switch both when you get to 61.5 and when you go back. Good luck.

Why So Many Current 301 Receiver Versions?
