DISH Guarantees $250 Savings to Satellite Pay-TV Customers Who Switch

You know dish discriminates against their African American customers by forcing them to get a higher package to get BET.

If I had a dollar every time I heard that....

It's true, I didn't make that one up
I'll attest to that. Countless amounts of times, I heard customers say that when they called in wanting that channel. It became a company joke across the enterprise at one point in time.

I do not... but I know what I am googling when I get done writing this paper... LOL... Now I need to turn my phone on vibrate and start ignoring emails... Bad influence Claude.

I just read it and that is hilarious.

"The Rev. Al Sharpton yesterday held a press conference outside EchoStar chief Charlie Ergen's home to ask the satcaster to carry The Word Network, an African-American ministry channel. EchoStar says the two public-interest channels it has chosen to air -- StarNet and CoLours -- are better qualified."

Claude, some of what you post is true, but here's the rub. I now have the Top250 and save $16.50 a month (I save $1.50 more since the increases by both) Even if I had top 200 and had to go to the Top 250 to get the channels I wanted that Direct had in a lower package I STILL would save approx $7.00 a month and would be receiving a better package. Of course if we are using that logic, it can work the other way around where DISH has the channels I want in the lower package, in that case I might save $27.00 a month, over $300 a year.

wow, getting desperate?
Who's taking advantage of something that they already have by making a big deal out of it. The ARPU difference of more than $250/year (even without the discounts) almost guarantees that the campaign won't cost DISH much and it makes DIRECTV look like the bad guy. A seeming win-win for DISH. Why not play it up?

Dish is not doing this because they want to. They are doing it because the have to, if you know what I mean.

It will all become clearer when they announce their quarterly subscriber results in a week or two.
What will you do if the numbers don't support your theory?

Just switched from DirecTV to Mediacom (something I swore I would never do!) and am paying about $60 per month less for phone, Internet and TV (channel package more or less equivalent to DirecTV Choice Xtra and AT 200 minus the sports networks, which Mediacom doesn't offer) than I was doing with DirecTV. Four rooms, HD, whole-home, TiVo on three sets. Price will rise $20 in my second year of a two-year contract, which means I'll be paying $40 a month less after one year. If either satco can match that, I'll come back.

The cable companies are getting aggressive.

With some of the deals Comcast has lately, with a 2 year price guarantee switching is a no brainer. Only issue with Comcast is their rental fees. By the time you add a Modem rental, with all the $10 fee here and there for extra receivers, the bundle is not as attractive.

At my house I own my own Modem and have a Tivo. Cuts the fees down significantly
