Nielsen doesn't count recording a show as watching it. They simply don't know that you recorded it.

Not entirely true. They now have "Daily +7" ratings that factor in DVR viewing, not that any I have seen anything deviate much from the original date.
 
They have different types of equipment that "monitor" viewing in homes and they also still use the old-fashioned (paper) diaries that people fill out.

Yes, viewing a show up to (7) days after it airs still counts in the ratings. That's not relevant here though. If simply recording a show "counts", Dish's PTAT really screws everything up.

The DISH dvrs report nightly their information to DISH , who sells that information for Neilson ratings, especially dvr recordings and when they are watched. Neilson will count the dvr data in to their ratings for at least a week after they are shown. For example I read that Shades of Blue was one the most watched shows in prime time that is watched delayed by dvr in their ratings. So unless you don't hook up your dvr to the phone or the internet , they know when you watch the shows you record.

It is important to also state that they are reporting data, not names or addresses....
 
All Hoppers have "What's hot" or "Trending now", which shows what Dish customers (only ?) are watching, both locally and nationally. Clearly Dish is monitoring and recording viewing data.

I do not believe they sell this information to Nielsen, at least not in the scope that it's counted for ratings. My understanding of Nielsen's data collection is that it's done only through their own tools or methods.
 
NONE of these shows are time sensitive, just take a week off, maybe by watching something else, Then, watch your recordings when the little red kangaroo shows up. Much ado about nothing with the delay...

Are you kidding me! :coco We like watching the PTAT shows the next morning or two.

Maybe in your opinion but I like to watch my shows the week they record and delete them so I can start out the new week with zero recordings.

This thing was doomed from the start..
If anyone thinks the networks were going to sit by and watch as ads were being skipped and then have the ad execs blistering their cell phones, screaming "what are you going to do about it!", they aren't paying attention

Didn't the networks use to complain decades ago, when people were first allowed to record shows on their VHS tapes? Seriously, they complain about anything and everything that's consumer-friendly.

It's a shame that AutoHop is being relegated to the sidelines. At least the good thing is that, like previously mentioned, most shows these days have commercial breaks ranging from 2:30 to 5 minutes, in 30-second increments, so pressing the 30-skip button about 5-7 times is usually sufficient enough to bypass most, if not all, of the commercials.

As for the shows I watch... X-Files for sure. Hope FOX renews it. Also can't wait for The Wall, on NBC. :D

Personally I don't care. My family rarely uses it but I still think it's a cool feature. I think it's more of a marketing tool than anything. There are a lot of members here that really seem to enjoy the feature though.

...or add the ability to restore the automatic deletions from the Deleted Recordings folder, instead of having them disappear completely. That would basically accomplish the same thing.
 
Dish's line of thought on why PTAT recordings don't go to the "recycle bin" could be that the user didn't fully request that each episode be deleted. If it's a program or episode that's really wanted, they expect you to "save" it manually. If you do that, then delete it, it will go in that folder where it can be un-deleted if wanted.
