Would be the perfect Tuner, but, DIsh still needs to add all the Guide data for the sub channels. DIrectv is almost done adding it for all markets on their system, taking about a year to do.
Hard to record shows on
COMET, PBS 2, PBS3, Grit, Laff, H&I (Star Trek) and many many more sub *FREE* channels with out OTA guide data.

You can set manual timers----but it is more work. Of course we were perfectly happy with doing that on our VCRs.

I remember when we could only receive one channel, so changing channels occasionally was just to clean the contacts.
